Beautiful flat. Those Norscot vintage CAT No. 12 graders are more representative of the 1946-59ish version of the 12. Depending on what year in the 1970's you're modeling, there was a very significant changeover in 1973-74. The 12G model marked the introduction of the 'modern' CAT grader with the square box tube frame and articulation along with overall 'squareness' of the sheet metal. I don't hold much hope for hyper accurate 1:87 construction and farm equipment from most manufacturers. 3D printing is going to be the avenue for us to finally have accurate models of this equipment.

What's on the desk this morning, a pair of Atlas (ex-BLMA) F89s and four trailers. Just bringing them up to fleet standard with some weathering and a few added parts.

Banging out what i can do before i have surgery in a month. NJ Transit aqua train pressure washer car is used to clean leaf residue off the rail head during the fall when tracks become very slick. NJ Transit has two sets of these now along with Metro North/Conn DOT. Flat car is a bowswer flat with side panels from an atlas gondola and styrene added to make bracing. This car was started over 10 years ago and is pretty crude for my standards but i am not starting over. Added NWSL 2x8 planks for the top deck. They'll get stained this week and car will be primered. I know i need railings but i need to get it somewhat rolling. Sick of it sitting in a box unfinished 20231126_134038 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr 20231126_134111 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr Prototype aqua crap by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr

Dan, very nice freelance beer reefers again!
In some German dialects and in Yiddish, Ziegele (pronounced in more or less phonetic English spelling TSEEguhleh) means little goat. In an old Yiddish lullaby it rhymes with Wiegele, meaning little cradle.
Thanks to all others who've posted photos of excellent modeling on this thread.

Got the front pilot fully reconstructed on this SD40-2. Needs some touch-up paint now. I’m trying to see if Athearn SD40-2 handrails fit, so far it seems like they do. Unfortunately Scaletrains is out of the brake shoes for the triple clasp trucks. I popped some of them off, and I could print more, but I wonder if that’s legal? The weather was ok enough to try to apply some clear coats. Unfortunately it ate the herald on this side. I ordered a microscale set to hopefully doctor this side up. Made more progress on the Espee models flatcar. I elected to use a lead weight in place of the steel weight as it’s thinner so the deck hopefully won’t be clamped as much.

Some great modeling by all this week! Working on this Genesis D&H GP, almost finished with the bulk of the weathering and going to turn my attention to the electronics and lights next.

That reefer shook this former Rochesterian awake. Zweigle’s is hot dogs. Period. Red hots, Texas hots, and White hots. Totally regional unless you have a branch of Rochester's grocery - Wegmans - close to you. I do here in Virginia and There's a package of Zweigle’s Red hots in the fridge. Zweigle’s Pop Open White Ale is a seasonal brand of the Stoneyard Brewing Company of Brockport, NY. Two or three cow pastures west of the Rochester sprawl. Nope, Wegmans doesn't carry it outside of Monroe County. I'm hungry. I might rethink this post after lunch!

Zweig (pronounced like TSVIKE in more or less phonetic English) is German and likely Yiddish for "branch", so Zweigel or Zweigele would be "little branch". After I started both learning German and looking at voter registration lists I learned that the surname of the Mr. and Mrs. "Rosen" who ran the tiny variety store closest to my family's home in suburban Philadelphia was actually Rosenzweig ("rose branch"). Rosenbaum and Rosenfeld (rose tree and field of roses) were also common family names for Jews in German-speaking countries, many of whom weren't required by the governments under which they lived to have such names until the late 1700's and early 1800's, the Romantic Era in many of the arts. That also accounts for such names as Lilienthal (valley of lilies). Some similar names had been in use earlier-- see Shakespeare's Hamlet for Rosenkranz and Guildenstern (rose wreath and gold star). In some places Jews were allowed to choose their own. In other places, notably parts of Austria, they were assigned nasty names such as Scheisspulver (enema) and had to pay bribes to get them made a bit less objectionable, such as Schiesspulver (gunpowder).

Those white hotdogs look a lot like those sold at Hydes Hotdog stand in Liverpool NY, but you can get them at Wegmans under the name Hoffmans. Hydes reportly frys them in peanut oil.

Hoffmans is Syracuse. About the same age as Zwiegle. Another Rochester brand which is mostly found in delis is Josef's. Sahlen's is the Buffalo brand. Nathans and Sabrett are New York City. It seems that almost any New York town with more than one stoplight has a sausage maker.

All well and good, but can you get them in a Rochester "Garbage Plate"? Duh! de rigueur. Ground beef, loose or patty, is most common, but Hots have been part of the offering since 1918. Here's a photo of a Nick Tahou’s plate. Nick invented it and patented it. Keeping on railroad subjects, Tahau's is in the former Buffalo, Rochester, and Pittsburgh Railway passenger station in downtown Rochchacha. Second photo. It's in a rough part of town and customers occasionally have to step over a chalk outline to get inside. A note to folks who think Cincinatti chili is unique to CinCin - the meat sauce on Tahou's garbage plate is the same as both are derived from a common Greek meat sauce. The first photo shows the plate. Paper plate filled with home fires, cold baked beans, and macaroni salad. Topped with hamb patties or red or white hots. Smothered in meat sauce. Served with a bottle of Heinz ketchup for the RIT folks. Mustard and raw onions for the UofR folks. Of course, other area restaurants have their own variations with slightly different names. In all cases eating is great. The next ten hours are not so great.

I lived in Rottenchester for 2 years back in 1987-1989 and used to drive from the 19th Ward on the west side of town past Nick Tahou's to work in the city. I worked at H&A of New York - office was literally on the Genesee River, east side. It was my first job as a geologist. My first job with them in the field was in Canastota NY sitting a pile load test in the muck fields. It was a geotechnical project. Having grown up and spending my teens and early twenties in northern California, I was not fond of the cold winters of Rochester to the point where my first wife (who was born and raised in Syracuse) soon had a rule that I could only complain once a week about the cold.
And for train content, there was a RR track crossing the Genesee River in downtown, and that is where I first really noticed the strings of fully enclosed autoracks passing over regularly.

Just curious what printer are you using? We have an Elegoo Saturn 3 12K at work, alongside an experienced guy (military modeller) using it. Since then I hardly use my filament printer anymore.

I'm itching to get a Saturn 3! My Saturn 2 is a workhorse, and the resolution is great. However, with the extra bit of resolution from 8K to 12K due to the smaller pixel size, I am really eager to see the difference between the two. Donnell
