I have been a along time user of Floquil and Scalecoat paint. Since I can no longer get these paints I am trying Modelflex because I can get it through my LHS. The paint is thick and I am having trouble getting it to go through my airbrush. Can this paint be thinned and if so with what. I am using 40 PSI. I purchased the retarder for this product but I don't think that will help in this case.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
John

Water. Better are the airbrushing mediums by Golden, Liquitex, Vallejo, AK Interactive, and others. They all intermix.
Also used with success by some folks are common isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) and Windex. I have found that for me these materials cause a chippy finish. Both Windex and alcohol are strippers for most acrylic paints.
The thinning mediums work better because they preserve the bonding and flex of the paint.
Retarder isn't for thinning. It is used when the paint is drying too quickly resulting in a sandpaper finish. A single drop goes a long way. You know your own airbrush, but I have found that mid-twenties psi works fine for me.

I haven't been able to airbrush for several years, but when I did, I would use the Modelflex paint, straight out of the bottle. I wonder if the formula has changed?

Christian Thanks for the info. I can pick up a bottle of Vallejo air brush thinner locally.
Thanks again

Modelflex is normally ready to spray our of the bottle but can become viscous over time. As stated, Vallejo Air Brush Thinner will work. So will distilled water. When thinning, do so in VERY SMALL amounts. Stir very thoroughly and check it carefully. I made the mistake of over-thinning a jar of Modelflex paint that had been on the shelf for a few years. As a result it was only good to use as a weathering wash.
