12/19/23, starting about 9:24 p.m., EST
I'll mention only items relevant to HO models; a good deal of time was spent on similar N scale ones.
The forthcoming ACF two-bay Center Flow covered hoppers of 2970 cu. ft. capacity are in the Athearn series and therefore will not have cut levers and brake hoses as Genesis series cars would. All will be offered in two single numbers and one three-pack; for five railroads the MSRPs will be $49.99 per single car, $124.99 for the 3-pack. The EL ones will be Primed for Grime and will have MSRPs of $54.99 per single and $139. 99. per 3-0 pack; they were new in 1967. All the renderings showed circular hatches; Jim Wiggin said some would have trough hatches. I asked on the chat whether they would have trough hatches, as Jim Wiggin had said some of the cars would; he wasn't sure and said he's check with Janet. The most recent paint scheme in the group is the dark green CNW one, which he said was from the 1980s and many hobbyists had requested. The renderings show NEW dates for the D&RGW, EL, Monon and NP ones in 1967, for the Bay State Milling cars in 1970.
I saw Bay State Milling covered hoppers in the 1970s and possibly later, but I think those were Airslides.
Jim Wiggin hoped that these models will arrive in about 18 months, since he says the factory is catching up. He says Athearn is trying hard to get some Amtrak P42 Heritage units by the end of this year and Surfline's by next summer.
He showed a video about Athearn's photo contest for scenes showing an Athearn product in a Holiday setting that closes at 12 midnight tomorrow night, with the winner to be announced in an Athearn Extra on YouTube and Facebook starting 7 p.m. CST on Thursday, Dec. 21.
Jim Wiggin said that UP CA11 cabooses will be officially announced early in 2024. He and others from Athearn will be at the West Springfield, MA, show January 27 and 28; he says modelers of New England railroads (and others) will be happy about some announcements in January.
