Atlas newsletter in my email says they bought out Custom Signals of Poughkeepsie NY. This will let them expand their O scale line, but apparently other than the signals themselves the technology works with any scale and will be used to expand their HO and N lines. Custom Signals makes full Absolute Permissive Block Signals where Atlas's line was only ABS.
Also, Atlas's Oct. 24 container showed up today. Standard Cupola cabooses, NE-6 cabooses, 2nd run Slab Side hoppers, I forget what else.

Probably more like Jan 10th on the Portecs. Depends on what delays the holidays add to getting them through customs and on their way to Atlas.

12/21/23, close to midnight The production schedule on Atlas's website shows very few models in the partial shipment in the container that left October 24 in the runs lvrr325 mentioned as available for preorder and not sold out. The other run in the same container shown as a partial shipment is Trainman series C&O type offset cupola cabooses, and just two C&O numbers and a special one painted gold and black for Operation Lifesaver's anniversary as a charitable fundraiser are shown as available for preorder.
And now to bed.

What kind of products did Custom Signals offer? Was it signal control equipment or actual signals for layout topside?
One thing that has always surprised me is the lack of good signals in the hobby. With DCC and all this JMRI computer control, I'm surprised how few signal vendors there are. Atlas has BLMI and a few of their own signals, and there is still the high-quality Showcase Miniatures kits, but whatever happened to Tomar or NJ International?
It seems like the pre-built signal market had dried up, even though it has never been easier to get operational signals on your layout.

NJ international appears to have fallen off the map. A shame because I’d like a few of their crossing signals.

Tomar is still around, with new(ish) ownership. They produce in batches and sell out quickly. Most of their dealers frequent eBay from the looks of things, I have not found alternate sources yet.

Yeah I miss their B&O and PRR Position Light signals, they were by far the most accurate on the market. To bad Atlas or someone doesn't take them over. I mean it's like Scalecoat and others that go boom then bust.

I think NJ might still be in business, but VERY slow.
I ordered some of their 4 track signal bridges, and I recall it taking a year or two until they showed.
But they DID show.
The Walthers website shows a bunch of their signals as "special order". See above.

NJ international appears to have fallen off the map. A shame because I’d like a few of their crossing signals. A new shipment from them came in just a few weeks ago. Searchlight towers, cantilever signal bridges, standard 2 and 4 track signal bridges, a couple of N pieces and some electronics. All of it still in stock except the burning fire circuit. Custom Signals made both the electronics and O scale trackside signals. I presume Atlas will scale these down for HO and N, it's a lot easier to start with an existing model and copy than plan up your own. I have a big preorder of the stuff in the latest container, I went heavy on the cabooses in roadnames that were bringing good to big money on eBay when they announced this run. Not going to have it shipped to me until after Christmas. Of course stuff that was preordered at three different times all showed up at once, but it should all sell pretty well.

Just as a little update -
Portecs will hit this week, the GP38s (silver) dropped today; not sure why the Portecs didn't also but my guy says they're backed up. I will try and snag one, I have some other stuff already waiting including five of the GP38s.
Surprise, the sound equipped engines didn't come, they shipped out Dec. 1.
Those of you waiting on the U30C Ph1 they will be here by the end of February, container went out with those, the Ford Fairmount sedans, and GARX reefers that were announced in 2019, all on Dec. 29th.
