First of all-Merry Christmas to everyone. It was 67 years ago this evening that I got my first Lionel train set. I was trying to find a picture of a three-year-old me playing with that set, but I could not find the album in which it is posted. Speaking of Toy-like trains, yesterday I built these two box cars: The car on the right is an Accurail box car which went together easily as do most Accurail kits. The car on the left is a Scale Trains kit. I had never built a Scale Trains kit before. There are features of this kit that are great. The bottom detail is more robust than that of Accurail, the coupler pockets are different, but I had no problems installing Kadee #5 couplers. The two tricky parts were installing the roofwalk, which has brackets on the end that made installation tricky. I also thought the door installation was funky. Both boxcars look good and run well on the layout after adding a half ounce of weight to each to bring them up to NMRA standards. I am sorry that the picture is so small, but I cropped the original picture and that must have reduced the size. I have a busy day ahead of me, so I do not have time to mess with the dimensions of the image.

A couple of Kato SD45s that I have reworked the handrails on.... Correct sideframes really help the UP one. Upgrading an Athearn SD39......Way too involved!

See comments on the first post. I reread that one before I finished the second one.

Plenty of other projects I can, usually, accomplish.. Had an unopened one I sold, as well. Get the TO DO pile down some might revisit it, and probably grumble about the lack of plans, again. Besides, I just like to say flummuxed..even if I can't spell it.

A couple of Kato SD45s that I have reworked the handrails on.... Correct sideframes really help the UP one. Upgrading an Athearn SD39......Way too involved! How’d you do the end bits of the handrails where they go into the cab? Little late to the party, but here’s my submission: Finally found one of these Intermountain reefers in BNFE. Unfortunately Intermountain’s yellow is almost orange and whomever had it before me lost the box. So I ended up replacing the stirrups with some Yarmouth model works ones. Painted with a rustoleum orange along with the draft gear. Soon to be weathered. Picked up an Athearn SW1500. Nice of them to add the all weather window, but they added it in the wrong orientation. Luckily it was loose out of the box. So plugged the holes for it, cut off the tabs, and glued it in the correct orientation. Also Athearn graciously provided the later style cut levers, but then glued the older style one in really well (came off in pieces) With the aforementioned reefer, I grabbed another one of these southern boxcars. No door change this time. Don’t know why soo many photos/videos of BN trains I’ve found had a southern boxcar in the first few cars. I’ve since weathered it but am waiting on the weather to not suck to seal it. And my Christmas present to myself was a Rapido mystery box. I’m wondering if the NP tanker would have made it to 78 like that in company service, and it that reefer would have lasted that long. U-boat could be an odd run through?

Foe the Kato cabs I used some Evergreen rod, either .060 or .080, I've forgotten which.
