I’m trying to work through a sheet of Micro Mark rivets. So far I’m not too impressed. They don’t provide much relief at all. Just playing around with them, a coat of primer was already starting to cover them up.
I don’t want to give up on these yet, as there’s a nice combination of things on the sheet. Does anybody have some tricks for using these? What combination of primer, color, and gloss coat (in what order?) should I use to keep them from flattening out on me?
If I decide to trash these, are the Archers noticeably better?

Archers are more consistent and generally better formed.

The Archer rivets were (or are?) available in several different sizes. Like a lot of items in this hobby, making them a tad bit oversize helps keep them visible under our sometimes too-thick coats of paint.

I use the Archers but use S scale rivets so they are more visible

I believe archer is operating under the new ownership now, with the amount of military scale modeling stuff they also made you knew they werent staying dormant for long.

For reference this car has Micro Mark rivets and Archer weld lines. Car has seen the RPM circuit and now needs some shop time. Scratch built sides with Chad Boas resin ends and roof with Accural under frame. New Archer website: www.archertransfers.com/ArcherMain2.html

What was your order of paint and rivet application?

First I marked the lines for the welds and rivets. This car I airbrushed the plain styrene with a clear gloss give the decals some adhesion. I found this needs to be done when I first started using Archer decals. You can also just brush the gloss on along the line for the rivets or welds. I sealed them with the same clear gloss brushed on top. Next was the boxcar red then gloss for the lettering and seals with a good clear flat.
