Just received my 2 ICG Atlas Master Line cabooses and the couplers were not the typical junk Accumate ones, they were metal Kadee #5 clones. I still ditched them for Kadee 158's and a Moloco Cushion device but it was a surprise nonetheless !

That won't help me with stacks of Atlas models needing to get Accumates replaced with Kadee's. I think a few Atlas models have KD's when Atlas picked them up from other vendors but that could be my mind playing tricks.

The new GP38s at Lombard still have Accumate in the product description. I wonder if the freight cars are being built at a different factory? It seems like Atlas shipments are coming in very piecemeal lately. Maybe there are different suppliers for some models.
The new Portec hopper shows metal couplers on the Atlas website, so maybe the Atlas Master Line equipment will start using Kadee clones. The NJ Transit cars have used metal couplers in the past, so it's not a new thing from Atlas, although it seems like only certain models get them.

The Portec hoppers are "Master Plus" line which is a little higher end than Master.

Thank the lord - I hate those couplers!

i must have hundreds of those stupid accumate trip pins on the floor in my workshop, i'd rather just not get the thing with any couplers at all.

I think my Atlas ACF centre flows came with Kadees back in the early 2000's. They may also have had semi-scale wheels.

Caboose is a pure Atlas model. I never looked at any of the ones here, and I just put them out with the show stuff since eBay seems to have cooled.

I bought a Pittsburg & Shawmut caboose from the latest run and it does NOT have Kadee couplers.

I picked up one from a show today, and it has those crappy accumate couplers. It goes well with the two accumate cars I got.
Holy crap, you might be right. In better light it does look like a Kadee. That's awesome!

My latest CNCF 5000 boxcars from Atlas came with whisker-shank Kadee 148s.. either that, or they were remarkably fine clones! =)

The Standard Cupola cabooses have a Kadee clone. I sold one more today so I slid it out of the box and I can see the spring on the side.

My new Ann Arbor CNCF 5000 boxcar has what appear to be the Kadee clones as well.

On the recent run of 5437 boxcars they had the cheap two piece couplers.
That and the new design makes it harder to change couplers, I just finished mine.
