I had built these two NYSW SD40-2's somewhere around 2010 maybe and what i thought were great looking then were actually horrible for me now. So i set out to rebuild both of them. First order of business was stripping the very thick floquill paint and primer on both shells. I used castrol super clean and let them soak for 24 hours and surprisingly the paint literally just brushed right off with no fuss. It even ate away at the glued on parts which will help in the rebuild process.
I am rebuilding them to there as-delivered state to NYSW back in the mid to late 2000's. First piece of business was 3018's nose which was a former SP nose. The reason it got this nose was both units were previously Southern and N&W high hoods. The original nose i had cut and grafted styrene and then putty to create the patched nose light look. I remembered that i had several SP and UP noses from my NJT projects so i pulled one out, stripped it, filled in the holes and sand it down. So now i'll have a good looking nose on 3018.
Next order of business was removing all the added on brass walkways from Cannon, any horns, bells, mu hoses and fans that felt loose. With that done i sorted the two models out and will go through my parts bin and pull the appropriate parts needed to rebuild these two SD40-2's.
I can't get the prototype pics to upload. But here is a pic of the one model before being stripped.

After removing the mold parting seam that was bad, class light blank outs and sanded glue down from filing in the holes. I'll touch up the small marks tomorrow.
Had shoulder surgery yesterday and trying to keep active makes me very tired.
