Gents, thanks very much for the head's up!
Again, I won't be able to get to the big show. This was very helpful.
My main question for Athearn's HO announcments is this: are the Athearn series 50 ft. Evans double door box cars now full scale length. Years ago they weren't.
A smaller one: "Eras" for the several containers?
It's now 1:29; I've finished helping fix lunch, doing nearly all the dishes, with many interruptions. Now have to go get ready for a visit to my doctor. The new car is now here, but I can't drive it yet.

glad to see the CP GMD GP38-2s run again, especially with several upgrades over the first run. I will be getting a couple. Still no CN ones though... I need a couple 4700s and/or 7500s for my fleet.

I'd need to do some more research, but I think Green MOL and small horizontal logo APL are from the 2000's. The others existed at least as far back as the mid 90's. CMA CGM has a new logo as of 2017, but older containers can still be seen.

If Athearn had stretched these cars, they would have at least used the magic word: retooled. These are cars I'd REALLY like to see in a Tangent/Genesis/Moloco version. The door rods on the Atlas just don't work for me--probably other stuff. These cars seem to have come in jillions of owners/paint schemes, and traveled everywhere high quality wood and wood products went. Ed

Ed Yeah, I have a bunch of the Altas Evans for now but a high quality version would be nice. AFAIK, we have the old Details West now warmed over by Athearn, Atlas and ScaleTrains low detail kit. Keep missing the mark, kind of like the F40PH did for years.

Athearn is pricing themselves out of the scale vehicle business, their prices are offensive.

Probably a smaller target audience than the CN GP38-2s but I’d like to see them do NBSR’s former Devco GP38-2s with their small fuel tanks. I’d buy all three of the NBSR numbers if they did those.

Plate C To be clear I haven't stated I'd be doing the 52-footers...just the 50's. I'm leaving the juicy 52-footers to other mfgs to tackle in more details/options than current offerings. Although I have some excellent parts and draft gear (EP #0409 kit) that can enhance others work to a much better model in the mean time. Nice to see another run of the CP GMD GP38-2s but I'm somewhat set on those from the first run.
Would Athearn have the different parts tooled to cobble together the standard-cab CN GMD GP38-2? Or would they need to tool a new sill/steps/pilot? I don't think they ever hinted at that version in the exploded drawings, just the CP standard cab and CN wide cab versions. I have a pair of the CN GMD GP38-2Ws and really like them!

Or would they need to tool a new sill/steps/pilot? Depends how their tooling works, but I would imagine they would need to make a new sill/steps part to make the CN ones. I believe the CN ones being built so much earlier have the shorter noses, so that would need to be made too. The cab can be re-used. Beyond that, their long hood molds seem to be pretty modular. They can take the CP long hood and delete the DBs, change the radiators and fans, change the PAF box, change the blower housing, and they'd pretty much be there. They would just need to make a new handrail for the conductor's side from the back of the cab to the rear steps. While they're at it, I hope they make a couple tweaks to the existing model and bring out a 3021-3040 version, just for some variety.

Nick Molo, thanks very much for the clarification. I have several of Atlas's version of the Evans-built cars with two double doors, one of the old too-short-in-length Athearn ones I haven't parted with because it has the same paint scheme as one I saw at the old concrete unloading platform for the long gone Atlantic Pre-Hung Door Company in West Concord, Mass., nicely weathered by someone else, plus a very few of the Scale Trains Kit Classic ones in liveries I like not otherwise avaiable.
