Looking to redecal a budd baggage-dorm into Amtrak phase II. Does anyone have a source that would preferably match up well with the other Walther’s budd cars I have in Phase II?
Also needing some decals for the as-delivered letting for BN bulkheads. I picked up a few Athearn ones that are decaled later

Microscale had Phase II decals at one point. I used them on a Walthers Budd car with no problem, other than putting on the first stripe upside down...

Does Microscale ever bring items back into stock? I think about 2/3 of their catalog has been out of stock for years.

Thanks, I'll pick up a set (or two, might convert my lone phase 1 car to phase II) I don't think so, they also seem to delete old stuff and like to use small grainy pictures (is their website ran by the same people who run Athearn's site?). I'm trying to find a good picture of the microscale 87-340 set to see if it'll work for my needs, but every seller on ebay seems to have used a potato to take the photo. I would like to know capy, build date etc of the BN cars on that set, I'd like to use them to redo 3 random MDC bulkheads into BN with the stakes, and redo the athearn BN 3-pack I got back into 70s appearance.

I need to convert a Walther ex ATSF transition bi-level passenger car from phase 2 to phase 3. But I've never applied long stripes before. The Amtrak CZ ran a bi-level transition car for years in phase III but for some unfathomable reason, Walthers never ran that version. KATO did in N scale, LOL.

Use plenty of micro set to keep things wet while you move them. Let it air dry before using Micro Sol, as it keeps things from moving around. Last thing to do is brush micro sol or solvaset over windows and cut an X across them with a sharp blade. I like solvaset to get the flaps to fold around and set firmly, but it's too harsh for Alclad and will damage the finish.

So you don’t have to cut them around windows? Here I was thinking I’d have to disassemble the car

Fusion Scale Graphics has an expanding line of HO and N scale Amtrak decals. If I recall correctly, the Phase I and Phase II stripes are the same, with the only difference being the lack of the pointless arrows in Phase II, of course. Fusion Scale makes the stripes in two different seizes (heights) to fit different types of passenger cars. I think one is for Amfleet and the other for Heritage cars, but I don't recall which is which (if that's even correct). HO SCALE AMTRAK PHASE I STRIPES SHEET 2 0.310" TALL DECAL SETHO SCALE AMTRAK PHASE I STRIPES SHEET 4 0.350" TALL DECAL SETI need to convert a Walther ex ATSF transition bi-level passenger car from phase 2 to phase 3. But I've never applied long stripes before. The Amtrak CZ ran a bi-level transition car for years in phase III but for some unfathomable reason, Walthers never ran that version. Jim, I believe it's because the hi-level cars were rebuilt by the time they received Phase III stripes, which resulted in some visual changes (access panels and doors?) on the sides that Walthers wasn't willing to invest in the tooling for, so they didn't want to paint the models in Phase III because of the inaccuracies the model would have for that scheme. Lay the decal over the window openings and cut afterward. I recall learning years ago that the best way to cut the windows openings in the decal stripes is to cut an X with a sharp blade and then trim around the inside of the window. My understanding is that it helps avoid tugging or tearing the stripes around the perimeter of the window. I haven't tried that yet myself. My Amtrak projects have been on the back burner for a long time. Dave

Dave, that's correct. I cut an x, then use the setting solution to get the 4 tabs to fold inside the shell and settle down.
