Guess you guys missed the Athearn announcement of a few days ago. Some interesting stuff. As usual. I see some 4600 covered hoppers that I'm in for. Plus maybe some LPG cars (after research). The Geeps look like fun, though I expect to pass on those. www.athearn.com/new-announcements/I ordered my UP CA-11's. Looking forward to those. Plus the CA-10's. I remember how weird they looked without ladders, back in the day. Now they look "jaunty". To me. Ed

Some one posted it on TrainOrders a few days ago. A lot of repeat models' in the list from past runs.

With the apparent demise of Arrowhead, I guess I’ll have to be in with Athearn 4600s.

It would be nice to get some more passenger cars to go along with the SP Chair Car. The upcoming California Cars will be a good addition to the Genesis line, but without other SP cars to go with it, the coaches feel under utilized. What am I going to do with one random car? I need a matching set of other car types to make a full train. Mixing cars between brands always results in mismatched paint colors and detail variations, which makes me feel like the Genesis Chair Cars are 'orphans' without a consist or locomotive.
However, it is good to see some of the RTR cars getting upgrades. Looks like the 52 foot gondola now has wire grab irons. Honestly, a lot of the newer RTR models are pretty good. The prices have been going up the last few years to fund all these tooling changes, but if you don't need a showcase-level car but still want baseline details like separate grabs, these cars work well.
The most innovative offering is the unlettered ATSF GP7u. Including a decal sheet is pretty cool; but I wish we could at least see a reference image of it. Is it just road numbers, or does it include decals for complete short line paint schemes? it might be nice to know what the sheet looks like so we can plan out the patch job and purchase any additional decals beforehand.

GP-7u, maybe an FCEN but likely an undecorated for a pet project I've been thinking about.

Of most interest to me was the blank, shortline ready GP7u models. The Georgia Southwestern RR had a few in that arrangement during their earliest years. I bought regular ATSF models way back for that purpose, guess I can sell those off now. Just have to paid the full can blue for one of them.
Atlas once released some RailAmerica locomotives just like that to include a decal sheet. Missed the boat on those, excellent concept in my opinion.

How are those mill gons? I recall seeing one LV gon in that paint with a Conrail MOW patch in the early 1990s. The price isn't bad.

I guess the boxcars are the too-wide ex-MDC cars? I wonder how many of the Thrall 52' gons are foobies? CP, probably. The D&H are interesting. The offset road name on the Valley 65' gon doesn't look right.

Their PS 5277 and FMC 50' double door are both extra thick, correct? other than maybe or two schemes in those I got nothing. Kinda wishing for some more BN GP9s (that aren't torpedo tubed) so long as they don't repeat the mistake from that GP18 run.

52' Gon is probably former MDC tooling.
CP is possible depending on what D&H cars went to the CP in 1992

CP is possible depending on what D&H cars went to the CP in 1992 I don't know of any cars of any of the roads that were folded into CP that ever got their numbers changed, other than some TH&B covered hoppers that later went to CPLX. (CP Leasing) cars from SOO, MILW, D&H, and others were all added to the CP fleet and some of them were even repainted but retained their original numbers and reporting marks. I haven't looked at the Athearn CP cars in the announcement yet but I would bet they are Thrall 2743 stand ins.Correction: After looking at the PDF, the CP cars Athearn just announced are complete fabrications. In the 'CP RAIL' era, CP never painted GBs black unless they were in company service. Gondolas were Action Red with a black and white Multimark. The CP 330xxx series does exist, but the prototypes were built by Hawker in the mid 60s, renumbered in the 80s, and are radically different than the Athearn model.

the patchout ACF 4600s are cool, I wanted to get one last time they were made but they sold out too quickly. Problem is, I bought a regular Rock Island car and made my own already, and I don't really need more than one 😂

They've been redoing all the MDC boxcars to correct that issue. It feels like this comes up every time Athearn announces an FMC boxcar but I can never remember which ones have been fixed and which haven't.

Athearn has been losing sales because of this. Maybe just a little, but still.......
Perhaps the thought is that by admitting that the over-widthness exists/existed, they will also lose sales. And maybe look bad.
Quelle pain!

Didn't Athearn announce an all-new Maine Central FMC boxcar last year?

When Scale Trains came out with the Combo Door boxcars I got several because Athearns were too Wide I did order two of the Athearns before Scale Trains came but when I took them out of the box and seen that they were too Wide they went back to Factory Direct Trains for a refund.
