Received my new Genesis AC4400 and installed an ESU 21 pin sound decoder and scale sound speaker. I can not get the ditch lights to work. I ran the loco on DC before any installation work and all the lights worked fine. Number boards work on aux 3, ground and walkway on aux 4. Wires are attached to outputs 5 and 6 which I assumed were the ditch lights. Can anybody help?

After thinking the situation through more thoroughly I realized what I was doing wrong. The programing in the Loksound files rarely corresponds with the actual physical outputs on the circuit board. I believe it is industry standard that Aux 1 & 2 are front ditch lights. That is how I originally setup the outputs but could not get it to work. The reason it would not work is because there is a tiny connector board with pins located in the roof of the cab that the lights are attached to. These pins touch pads on the circuit board when the shell is in place, but the shell must be screwed down tight to get a good connection. My mistake. I screwed the shell in place and setup aux 1 & 2 for ditch lights and everything worked fine.

IMO this is the finest Athearn loco I have ever purchased. The shell can be completely removed and there is no rats nest of wires. The loco has good weight and the details and quality of workmanship is outstanding. As good as Scaletrains. Regarding Scaletrains, can anyone give me advice on the work involved in replacing speakers in their locos with Scalesound speaker?
Thanks
John

The Scale Sytems AHGS-UNI-RC1 is a drop in speaker system for current run dual cube Athearn Genesis and RTR locomotives. Most of their speakers are easy to install and the web site provides information on installation. The only speakers that are not so easy to replace are Scaletrains. There is also a how to video on his wedsite which I suggest you watch. www.scalesoundsystems.com/product-page/athearn-genesis-rtr-dual-cube-speaker. quote author=" trra51" source="/post/196296/thread" timestamp="1709994517"]After thinking the situation through more thoroughly I realized what I was doing wrong.
