Finished my Penn Central GP35 that started as an undecorated Phase 1C GP35 from Walthers. Walthers did a pretty good job on this new release and it was nice to start with a GP35 that had nicely done handrails. The model comes with etched metal fans that look OK however I replaced the 48" radiator fan grills with Plano ones. The Walthers radiator grills did not look right to me but I may have installed them upside down (I glued them in place but bent them when I removed them). Engine runs very well but the Walthers supplied speaker is not very good. I already ordered a Scale Sound Systems speaker as a replacement. I painted it with a mix of Model Flex Gloss Black and Engine Black then lettered it with Microscale decals. The thin PC numbers are from the PCRRHS but the "2" is from the Microscale set. I used of all of my 2's from the PCRRHS set. I like the easy to remember locomotive number. The small "ENOLA" assignment lettering is my own as the assignment lettering in the Microscale set is too big.

That's an excellent 35 great job, I bought a couple undecs on ebay going to do a PC former NYC unit with the red C ( I checked the NYC GP35 roster and they had some phase 1Cs and it just so happens the unit I want to model is that phase, the other will be a Pennsy unit. I got a Kato undec for B&O. It looks to be a really nice unit Walthers did here and the options that are enabled are a bonus.

Tom, Inspiring work, as usual. Any advice to a newbie Model Flex guy? I've yet to airbrush it, but will be soon. Pressure, thinner, etc? Thanks in advance. Scott

I have used Model Flex, along with other brands of paint, for quite a while now but not great revelations to give. I now use a Badger airbrush but used to use a Pasche one but I have good results with both. Pressure I use 150-200 psi. Model Flex does not always need thinning but all I used is just some distilled water but again not too much. Maybe at most 1 part water to 20 parts paint. Oh yeah I forgot but on my model I added some either 1" or 0.01" styrene strip under the turbo hatch and blower hatch so they would sit with just a bit of a gap. These are done very well...just about Cannon and Company quality.

Thanks for the info, I'll follow your suggestions. Also, you prefer Scalecoat PC green as opposed to Model Flex? Tom, Inspiring work, as usual. Any advice to a newbie Model Flex guy? Looks good, Tom! That simple PC style cab lettering is so important to the feel of the model, and I enjoy seeing it properly sized along with the assignment tag. Nice little Geep.
