DSC04580 by wp8thsub, on Flickr WP caboose 468 is an Overland model finished with Tru-Color paints and Microscale decals. I had it sitting unpainted in a box for a couple decades and figured maybe I should finally do something with it.

I did get a little work done this week! Assembled an Eastern Car Works H2a Hopper Car kit, painted it Scalecoat II Black and lettered it with Mount Vernon Shops decals. The PRR was transitioning from 50 Ton 2bay hoppers to 70 Ton 3 bay hoppers, they built 2000 H35 hoppers to replace worn out H21 hoppers but lacked the cash for any more at the time so they leased 2,000 H2a hoppers from the N&W (48% controlled by the PRR) for 10 years and returned them in 1966. The PRR painted over the N&W and just added the PENNSYLVANIA and car number. I finally finished my second DT&I GP7, with their special curved grab on the short hood, spark arresters and a Nathan M5 horn. Engine was painted with a 50/50 mixture of Scalecoat II ATSF Red and Reefer Yellow paint, Black Paint and lettered with Herald King Decals. This was one of the last two GP7's on the railroad and were many times leased to the PC for use in and around Toledo. Finally, last week I took a pair of Athearn DT&I GP40-2's to the club to replicate the Railblazer an all TOFCEE train that ran Dearborn to Cincinnati. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski

Most brass trucks I have don't roll very well, so I replace them with plastic trucks.

I have had some success on brass caboose trucks by using Intermountain's roller-bearing wheelsets.

Great work as usual everyone! A bunch of odds and ends this past week. First I finished this Athearn RTR combo door ABOX. Brake detail was build using some .015 phosphor bronze wire and evergreen styrene pieces. Not 100% correct but it looks neat going down the track. Weathered and Hi-Tech airhoses added. Next up is a finished trio of Bowser CSX ex Chessie 100ton hoppers. Upgraded with Genesis trucks, airhoses and some minimal piping detail on the ends. Hoping to make a longer coal train, so trying not to spend 10 hours on each car! I was back at home for the Easter holiday; and was able to spend some time at the club laying some track and working on landforms for our "ramp" that models a similar ramp located in Niagara Falls, NY to access many of the chemical companies in the area.

Here's a test HO scale building that I designed for the laser. Construction material includes .0625" thick E-flute cardboard salvaged from a Nutella box for the sub-structure, and .020" thick 300gsm watercolor paper for the overlay. I'm not sure where this is going, but there is a possibility that it could lead to a line of affordable laser cut "papercraft" structures that would be available in multiple scales. Donnell That's great work. Laser-cut card stock kits are very popular in Europe. I have a couple myself, and with the external wall coverings they use, they look as good as any plastic kit I've built.

Dan Belleville is my home town. I lived about 20 blocks from the brewery when it was open. Sadly, the Stag Brewery closed around '77 or '78 and production moved elsewhere. I've drank Stag a few times. It's not bad, but regular old timers tell me it's not the same as it used to be when brewed in Belleville.

For operating sessions, I will take a brass caboose with the stock trucks, as it acts to hold the cars while switching, especially on a grade. My old Lambert NYC Bay Window Cabooses came with Central Valley trucks which roll pretty well. Rick Jesionowski

Belleville is my home town. I lived about 20 blocks from the brewery when it was open. About a hundred miles north of you, when in the fourth grade, we boys were all amused by Griesedieck Brothers beer. I suppose I still am. By the by, Griesedieck Brothers is still in business as a craft brewery. Too bad that they lost Stag and Falstaff along the way.
