Some Organization It looks like Spring has gotten in the way. A slow week. Even the Rapido Bashing is lackluster. I set about organizing some of my paints. Heretofore, the paints had been living in a former dormitory dresser. The drawer was full, and I suddenly had a new set of Micro-Mark paints to store. Photos 1 and 2 show the Amazon Basics racks that I bought for $13.55 each. They hold dropper bottles like Vallejo and AK Interactive 3rd Gen. Photo 3 shows the twice-as-expensive Tinctor rack that fits the larger bottles. Between the three racks, I was able to almost clear one dresser drawer. Yeah, there is a second drawer with Tamiya, Polly Scale, and so forth. The fourth photo is taken from my eye level as I’m “at work,” showing the placement of the two dropper bottle racks. YTDT is the location for the third rack. That third rack contains my Mission Models and Pro Acryl paints, which are my current favorites. The fifth photo shows my new paint brush rack, which cost $9.99. It holds all the brushes that were in the containers shown in the last photo. Unfortunately, the rack holds so many brushes that it is hard to pull out one from the middle two rows. My thinking is that a second rack would let me use every other hole and more easily select a brush. Note: I’m really careful with my brushes. Five or six in that rack date from about 1970.

That is impressive! I have mostly Tamiya lacquers (LP series) in the small (10 ML/.33 oz) bottles; same as your X-17. Have you identified a rack in which those bottles could fit?

I wish someone would make those paint racks that hold paint bottles at an angle like some wine racks. A very short fixer upper. Came in loose in a box of junk donated to my club. Needed only the coupler box lids (made new ones, screws, and a brake stand which luckily wasn’t used on the Q/BN kits I built. Used some thinned down oil paint (whichever sienna is orangish) to tone down the lemony yellow Scaletrains used. I did the panel with the U-1 and cots seperate

They fit perfectly in the rack shown with Mission Models paints. a.co/d/2e6Jj8hWhat you are looking for are 1.41" or 36mm holes. The search term: "citadel paint rack" seemed to turn up the most possibilities. I needed a low rack to fit an existing space. There are also vertical configurations. And there are "wine rack" configurations.

Wanted to post last night, but the site was down for me. I've been working on a NF&D boxcar from a Branchline kit. The draft gear is off my upcoming N&W gondola kit as it's identical to what was on these boxcars.

Moin
After adjusting the frame and weathering, the heavy duty flat cars are now in use.
The images were created on the layout by Sven K. / NS Wepper Yard

Waaay back in the 90s as a young teenager, my constant pestering finally convinced my parents to surrender a corner of the basement for a layout. While my plans were grand, it never amounted to much more than some track running across bare plywood between a couple of random buildings. One of the kits my dad picked up for me was this Accurail Vesuvius Crucible boxcar. Even though it wasn't right for the at the time "modern" era I was attempting to model, the bright yellow car just looked right sandwiched between my Conrail blue box loco and a crudely assembled white Walthers Procor funnel flow tank car. Unfortunately, the trains only lasted two or three more years as high school brought on a whole slew of things that competed for my time and interest. Everything got sold off or disappeared, so when I saw this car in a $5 pile at a show, the sentimental side of me said grab it. Just as before the car is too early for the 90s, but I took a little modeler's license and maybe it's still floating around a steel mill or a short line or something. This was meant to be a quick budget project so while not necessarily accurate, I only used what I already had on hand in the parts bin. I replaced the walkway and stirrups and added air hoses and cut levers. The bulk of it was weathering. The prototype photos I found showed the cars had faded pretty bad, but I liked the yellow so I only gave it a light fade. I beat up the doors and roof a little more for an extra 25 years of service. Some Kadee couplers and wheelsets rounded out the project. Not too bad for a $5 kit from 1996. VCBX 1013 by cr9617, on Flickr VCBX 1013 by cr9617, on Flickr VCBX 1013 by cr9617, on Flickr

I had an issue with the site being down briefly when I tried to get on here too so it wasn’t just you.

4/22/2024 (Earth Day), starting about 9:23 p.m.
cr9617, thanks very much for your interesting post. Really nice work on the Vesuvius Crucilble car! I bought on of those Accurail cars when it was new; I hope to do a somewhat less drastic weathering job on it. I have a soft spot for cars with volcanoes on them, partly because a few decades ago an HO modeler in a town next to the one where I live had a fine layout for which he scratchbuilt a volcano, using LEDs to give an imitation of an eruption from it!
Model railroading is fun!

hudsonyard, good looking models! What carbody was the starting point for the DSDX reefer with the Milwaukee Road herald? That was a type of car that probably carried many of the products that gave that railroad's "Beer Line" its nickname in its home city after pilferage from cars conspicuoulsy marked for brewers became a big problem.
Same day, about 8:56 p.m., EDT
I believe I've just answered my own question, by going to Accurail's website. It's one of that firm's latest releases, available as part of a 3-pack with a blue ADM car and and orange Oscar Meyer one of the same type and individually.
It's been quite a while since I've looked at that firm's website. It's substantially revised but still has a link to the old version.
However, it also announced a sad development of which I had not until just now been aware. Accurail's "co-founder, President and good friend Dennis Storzek has died after a long battle with ALS". I had not known about his having what is often called "Lou Gehrig's disease". The firm asks modelers not to send condolences because staffers have been overwhelmed by them. I corresponded with Dennis Storzek quite a few times; he was one of nicest and most helpful persons in the model railroad business.

That is very sad to hear, I operated with Dennis on a layout in IL years ago during an operations weekend, his hearing wasn't the greatest so we did everything by hand signal. An incredibly nice person. I've built hundreds of his kits over the years both for my own fleet and the club. I tend to keep up with recent Accurail releases as the local shop here stocks them, they are cheap and easy to build, and like cr9617 proved in this thread with some minor upgrades they fit in with "nicer" cars.
I believe that MILW car needs the hatches taken off and a deeper sill added.

So sorry to hear about Dennis Storzek. I always liked his resin kits, especially the Soo sawtooth boxcar.
