Those first two wheelsets look like they may be 28" diameter. Interesting to see those set to the side and not mixed in with the other wheelsets.

I’ve seen more wheels on semi trucks than rail cars.

The upper level wheelsets on the Class 1 models appear to rest on the axles and bearing housings. The prototype does not do that. They rest on the flanges of the lower level wheelsets.
I think that all of the slots in the rack should be the same size.
Are the model wheelsets made to Proto 87 standards or something else?

You can ship wheels only in boxcars on a web cam their is a boxcar where the wheels shifted and broke the doors open that can be modeled easy.

Is there a different in how you handle used wheels needing to be reconditioned verse those that have been reconditioned?

Not that I've seen in modern times. They stack them the same way, at least from the shop locations. If they are scrap that's a different story of course.

This is completely false, wheels have been shipped on flatcars and flatbed trailers for decades. Here's a CN car I shot carrying four different sizes of wheelsets, rack is similar to the new Class One rack: freight.railfan.ca/cgi-bin/image.pl?i=cn49263&o=cn

I usually see wheels loaded in gons, rather than boxcars.

Can you see in a boxcar with the doors closed you can see in a boxcar when the wheels shifted and busted the doors.

My understanding is Griffin recieves old wheels in gons and then ships out new wheels mostly in boxcars or by truck, depending where it's going. (I am local ish)

(I am local ish) Makes sense, I wouldn't expect new wheels randomly piled in a gondola due to potential damage but I selected the Bing view above as it appears to show new wheels in a gon at the top of the screen. Could be rejects brought out from the plant perhaps. There are multiple piles and gondola loads of scrap wheels around the property which have a distinctly darker black-brown appearance vs the lighter/lightly rusted new wheels. Do you recognize the trucking company logo on the trailer at the loading dock? I can read ...Express Inc. but not the preceding name, logo looks like a W and M superimposed. www.bing.com/maps?osid=6584c3c6-dc65-4367-8421-bdc998638b23&cp=49.913126~-96.999434&lvl=22&dir=15&style=g&pi=0&v=2&sV=2&form=S00027
