Ordered an MEC 302, an engine I ran. The L&NE's look tempting, too.

If I was a less disciplined man i'd order an LNE unit or two, I dont plan on modeling Martins Creek or Tadmor anytime soon, although....

It's described as almost from the rails up new design. Trucks, railings, and wire work look good in the Atlas site photos. But the hood sides look mushy. The cab has likely fixed all the issues from the older models, but it looks like they installed 1970s thick plastic glass.
Preinstalled DCC and sound make the locomotive interesting. Particularly the "Lucky Strike" GW loco.

RE: tooling, it's probably based on the retooled, last run S4's with different trucks.
One thing I wish they'd fix is that the cab side windows are too tall, and the little side flange on the roof extension over the hood where the handrails attach is practically nonexistent. Surprised they missed that after the big retooling for the S4's.

Need the later all-welded cabs with rounded-corner windows for S-3, 4, 5, 6, T-6. Never done in HO as far as I know. This probably applies to the RS-1 too, I haven't checked.
Also, there were several variations of the cabs with the earliest cabs having the most rivets.

The last run of S4's came with a riveted cab with square corner windows or a welded cab with rounded windows.

Great to know, thanks. I don't think I've seen a photo of one with the welded cab. A few side view renderings on the Atlas website look like welded cabs, GT, B&O?
N scale too.

Hard to find pix of the cab end. IIRC, MR had an online review when they came out (a year ago?) that showed the different cabs.

Arlington AM transfer outlawed in Tamaqua, TQ wasn't paying attention and it got buried in a cut for Newbury Jct, got shoved off on the NYC and was hauled all the way down to Weehawken. Pen Argyl is very confused about the entire situation.

The Bachmannn S units have the welded cab.
Do the new S2's have the same way too wide end handrails and horrible mold parting line on the nose that the S4's came with? I can live with making new handrails, but I still am not sure how to fix the nose...

Yes to both, although the parting line isn't as bad as I remember it on the S4's. Maybe it just looks better under black paint.

Just wondering if anyone is having issues getting their unit programed?
