SD50 Road Names: Chessie 8578, 8581, 8595 CSX YN2 8556, 8563, 8564, 8567 DRGW 5501, 5510, 5515 CNW Zito 7004, 7015, 7022 MP Canary Yellow 5014, 5049 KCS White 704, 707, 713 There are SO many good roads and schemes for this model; we had to pick and choose. It's understood that there is a lot still on the table. They will come. If Athearn would update their model due dates then I could plan better as this will be a significant order. But saying things are coming this month that are nowhere near ready is strange. The website needs attention.

The website needs attention. Given Athearn's slow release schedule in the last few years, the most realistic release date for these is 2026. |

Asleep when this came in. Finally good news!
Hurray! Looks like are offering two different tooled cabooses as well which is clear from watching the video. When it rains, it pours.
Edit: weekdays I have to get up at 5am for work so I try to be getting shut-eye by around 9 or so. If big announcement come late at night, I usually don't see them until morning. The guys making the announcements are west coast so 11pm my time is 8pm Pacific Time.
Anyway, hopefully these cabeese will be state-side by next Christmas 2025 - hoping!
The SD50 are something I've wanted in the past but I am modeling west end where they didn't roam until later on. Still, I might be tempted.
Thankyou Janek for posting this update. (Jim had indicated an announcement was coming a couple months ago)

The question becomes, do I need one to pair up with my DRGW stuff? Maybe if I do they'll do GN style ICC cabooses?

I prepared myself a number of years ago for this day when an Athearn rep told me Genny SD50's and 60's would come. I then sold my stash of undec SD50 and 60 units while the market was decent...;-)

I had some Athearn RTR SD50's in D&RGW years ago but sold them off for the day they would offer the Genesis versions, which for some years now, were supposedly coming.

Didn't Athearn do RTR Conrail SD50s with flexicoil trucks? Also, later CR SD50s had HT-C trucks. No Conrail or Seaboard? I would have been in for a Conrail one. Clune tooled the SD45T-2, SD50/60 with an eye toward them eventually going Genesis.

Nothing for me this run, but man, this is awesome. Finally a Genesis-level SD50. My wallet will need to be resuscitated when they do Conrail and Conrail Quality with ditch lights.

Certainly grateful to see the SD50 coming in Genesis finally. Looking forward to the new HTC truck design; and the upgraded frame/drive system. Would love to have a third MP number if possible. Otherwise, I think I'll get two MoPac and two DRGW for train coal trains 723/724.
