I'm gonna have to bookmark that (although getting correct parts may be tricky) as I'm pretty certain a fair amount of those were around in '78. I can only have so many of the accurate GN and Q cars from manufacturers. |

From my admittedly casual research on BN-era 40-foot boxcars from the late 1970s, the cars remaining in NP paint were of a minority compared to former GN and CB&Q cars. I can't tell you why--perhaps they were favored for repainting and life-extension upgrades (recall that many of these were already rebuilt in the early 1960s with reinforced sills). There were a fair number of these still around in BN paint at time.
