What's in your closet? When I built my railroad I realized that a helix would take up a lot of space in the train room (basement) so instead I built it in the adjacent garage. To house the helix I built an insulated room in a corner of the garage. It also doubles as a storage area for the snowblower in the summer and the lawnmower in the winter plus a lot more stuff. The previous photo shows one track coming from the visible part of the railroad and then below it shows one track heading into staging. There is also a loop of track on the top levels that provides continuous running. It is still fun watching a long train traveling down the helix and looping over itself. The radius of the helix tracks are 30" and 32". It has been in operation for more than 10 years.

Here's a P&R GAd gondola I'm working on scratchbuilding. These were rebuilds of the GAc class built in 1903, after it became apparent that those cars' total lack of side sills was a problem. There's a model of the GAc available on Shapeways which you may have seen. I'll be loading this one with coal when it's finished, as the rebuilds retained the drop doors from the originals. Red Caboose double door AAR boxcar done as a former Erie car rebuilt to GN specs.

Tom, nice to have closet to hold a helix of that size and diameter - hidden away too!

Nice job on the SD35’s. My favorite 6 axle unit but they were pretty much done on Class 1’s when I wasn’t a teen yet.

Been doing some continuity testing using a DC power pack to make sure tracks are all energized before hooking into DCC. Working on wiring the Tam Valley Frog Juicers in. Did 6 for a hex juicer at the right end of staging and another 12 at the right end of the main yard.

Whoa, a GN ex-Erie boxcar??? Tell us more! From Mr. Sutorik on RealSTMFC (the post that inspired my car): In 1963, GN leased cars in the series GN 15000-15549. They appear to have had Viking roofs (see attached photos). They were "...formerly Erie-Lackawanna Series 78500-78999 and 79000-79199." (this from the GN diagram for the cars). They are noted as being built in 1940. I suspect the door widening happened after E-L ownership--A.A.Morrison Co. are listed as owners. Note that trucks were listed as "Barber, Nat'l.B1 Cast Steel" (see attached photo). Also note that the secondary door is wider than the main door. Inside height is 10'.

The throw bar looks to be the older Walthers one with all metal throw rods.
