Looking for decals for B&O W-7 offset triple hoppers in the 60's-70's large B&O scheme. K4, Highball, Mount Vernon, and Microscale don't seem to make them. Not a rare or unusual car. Anybody know of a good set, or will I have to cobble the lettering together? I checked the B&OHS store and they don't have decals.
Found hopper lettering diagrams on the B&OHS site and have ordered K4's twin offset hopper and 50' gondola sets. Should be able to get what I need from them.

That was my plan. Although I've had a hard time finding pictures of W-7s in that era, many more taller W-10 cars. I think a ton of the W-7s got the Raceland treatment.

Didn't know they had bigger (taller) offset triples. I'm using the BLI car.

The W-10s had 6 grabs on the ladders instead of 5 on the W-7 through W-9s. It's only a 4 inch height difference, but you can see it.

A member of the B&O Railroad io group, Ed Sauers back in 2018 made a set of decals that would letter 2 two bay and 2 either three bay or quad hoppers. You might try contacting him if he has any but if I remember correctly he only made enough for those that pre-ordered the decals. I still have a couple of unused sheets in my stock of decals.

Here's a scan of a W10/H38 I recently uploaded to my Flickr. The slide is labeled as "Somerville NJ 1971". I modeled an H38 in Chessie using the Accurail 70 ton triple car, adding extra rivets. The car is still too short, but it will have to do. I am currently working on a second car. I plan on using the K4 Decals HTG set. Really, a combination of sets and weathering to make up the difference. B&O 528802 by Freight Engineer, on Flickr

surlyknuckle, am I right in assuming you meant too short in height, not length?

The 528802 also has hat section instead of angle bracing. An AAR alternate design?

Is the BLI model correct or the B&O cars? I did get the BLI B&O anyway for a future B&O show train, it joins Accurail cars from years ago. Totaling about 10 three bay cars now - need 40 more. ScaleTrain is welcome intro these as kits and I'll install the grabs - just get me a couple dozen unique numbers.

Are you looking for the big B&O lettering in the middle of the car, or the larger capitol dome logo as shown above? In either case I've had Mount Vernon Shops do some custom work for me, and considering his catalog of B&O/Chessie Hopper decals he may have most of the artwork done already, it would just be a matter of compiling the data and putting it into a set. His prices are reasonable, with an excellent quality product.

Big B&O. I see Mount Vernon has black decals for the ice breaker car and covered hoppers. You're right, it probably wouldn't take much work to rearrange his existing artwork to make open hopper lettering. A couple sets of K4 B&O decals (twin hopper and gondola) came today. The larger lettering and numbers look good, but the very small stuff doesn't appear to be legible. Maybe instead of starting with an undec I should get the BLI 13 Great States version, remove the herald and roadname, and add the big B&O. I haven't had much luck removing lettering from BLI hoppers, however.
Also got a set of K4 CP open hopper decals and they look fine; it does six cars, three each HT and HM.

D'oh ... never mind! I just found out that BLI has previously done the triples in the mid-50's scheme with the big B&O. Ordered a 4-pack.
