Having issues since day one with MTH Pere Marquette @1225 with smoking whistle from the last run of this model by MTH. I have changed the tender bord, boiler board and the whistle/smoke board on this model recently multiple times. The locomotive has all the lights, sound, possibly smoke but only will run six to eight inches then it stops and repeats the run sequence. I have sent tender boars and whistle boards that were removed from the engine in the past to MTH and they checked ago but when I installed them no sound, lights or movement. The first couple of times that the engine failed, I sent it to a MTH Service center for repair. Locomotive ran when I took it out of the box but failed a very short time thereafter.
I now have a new boiler board, a new tender board, a new chuff/tach board and a new whistle/smoke board nut I am not sure that the model will be fixed after I replace them. I have soldering skills, and I wear a anti-static wrist band when working with the boards. Any suggestion out there besides trashing the Proto Three electronics and going with ESU, Soundtrax or TCS?

verify pickup / wheelset connectivity. Check for frame shorts to boards. Verify no mechanical binding in the mechanism (check quarter)

Thanks for the reply. I have done all of the checks that you suggested but still the locomotive is dead!

Run sequences moves forward for about 18 inches stops and does again until power terminated. I attempted to do a factory reset now the model is dead!
