3D Central also (kind of) announced some new kits on FB Looks like an LV 40' boxcar. Anyone know if they fixed the dimensional issue (car width too narrow) on the PRR X53/54 cars? Issue with this car was corrected, see post from Tom below. LV USRE boxcars (Prototype car number series 66000-66524? Not sure if this series is the only number series these models match, someone check me on that.) Very nice! Mark

State Tool & Die has announced and is selling at the show, a pre-painted & lettered 3D print of the Southern 40' Berwick Radio Control Car. Comes in the large Southern Billboard lettering for the 905XXX series and the post 1982 Claytor font, also in the 905XXX series. Modeler will have to add kit supplied ladders, firecracker antennae, and MU hoses. Car comes with 100-ton trucks and 33" metal wheel sets. Original Southern billboard lettering in the 95XX series, NS Speed lettering and other Southern lettered oddities will be offered in future runs.

IIRC the lights originally had a blue lens because blue light is better for fog. It ran foul of blue flag rules and was discontinued. Somewhere I have a clear photo of the lights with blue lens. Reading over what locomotive engineers said, they said the lights flashed alternately.

Wait ... what are those C&O hoppers??? Proto? A standard design that might have been used by C&O, B&O, WM, RDG, and N&W?

Thank you both for the info and photos. I like how Walthers is continuing to expand their switcher line. In this particular case, the Kato models ran beautifully but are far behind in terms of detail by today’s standard. It’s not their market, and that’s totally fine. Glad to see Walthers doing these. 7/20/2024, starting about 4:32 p.m.
Can anyone specify the"Phases" of NW2 locos that any of the following railroads or railways had?
Boston & Maine, Canadian National, Canadian Pacific, Central of New Jersey, Central Vermont, Erie Lackawanna, Grand Trunk, Lehigh Valley, Maine Central, Nickel Plate Road, Pennsylvania, Reading.
I have reasonably good source material for some of these railroads and railways but not for all of them.
I must admit my roster already probably has too many diesel-electric switchers compared to road switchers, especially since the latter were more likely to run on lines for which they were not lettered.

CPR did not have any NW series switchers, in fact they actually had very few EMD switchers overall. Their switcher fleet was dominated by Alco/MLW. They had hundreds of Alcos compared to 2 dozen GMs. The only EMD/GM switcher models rostered by CP were the SW8, SW9, and SW900. They later got some 1200s from the SOO LINE but very few ever actually got CP paint.

7/20/2024. starting about 5:42 p.m.
So far I've looked at George Elwood's great rr-fallenflags.org site, which in general has, for many railroads, mostly photos from fairly recent decades.
I found no CN, CP, CV, GT or MEC NW2 switchers.
Did find several photos of B&M, CNJ, Erie, EL, LV, NKP, NYO&W and RDG NW2s, with two-slope increase in the height of the hood ahead of the cab, which would indicate an earlier "Phase". A drawing of a PRR NW2 shows the same characteristic.

not a switcher, technically. They were road units. 65 mph gears, MU, full size front number boards, the whole 9 yards. CP never used MU on their switchers until most of their switcher fleet was close to retirement, and they only added it because a single unit simply wasn't getting the job done any more as train size and the length of cuts being switched in the yard increased.

Here's some phase info for the NW2's: yardlimit.railfan.net/emd/nw2/index.htmlThese are looking very promising. Very nice to see the metal frame! I look forward to seeing the versions with deck-side handrails added, too. Ed

Going to be expensive. I wonder if I can use some extra doors to fix up the Walthers ones I have.
