Announced at St Louis but not official yet. NW2 in Phases 1-4 (they already have Phase 5).

These new ones, being Proto, will likely cost more. Like an additional $100+.
But they should also have road-specific detailing, which the Mainline don't have. That's why I'm passing on the new GN simplified Walthers switchers.
These should be pretty nice, I do believe.

Proto locomotives will always have more details/options than Mainline but in regards to the NW2 often those locomotives did not have many additional details. Here is my Mainline NW2 and I do not recall adding any additional details other than the wipers and the antenna. The sunshade may have been a leftover from a Proto GP9. Different phases will be nice.

Nice engine. The weathering is just right.

Do photos indicate if the higher end railings will be available, as on UP and maybe other units? My Mainline version is a very nice runner.

It's officially on Facebook Where? There's an announcement for a new run on Mainline NW2s, but these are not the same!

They will post them soon. The engines they are talking about are Walthers/Proto NW2 versions.

What is the word on those coal hoppers in the picture? Someone said on a different thread that those were someone's models on display there and just happened to be sharing a table with the Walthers models. Not related.

So Walthers decided to display their newest locomotive on a modeler’s table that also happened to have models of a common freight car that they don’t make? They had to know it was likely to cause discussion. Or maybe that was the goal?

They had to know it was likely to cause discussion. Or maybe that was the goal? Its an RPM meet. The tables fill up with models... Its pretty clear to me what was theirs on display, and what was not. I can tell you, the tables were pretty empty when vendor's were doing setup. By the time the doors opened, the tables were already filling up. Just because somebody chooses to put their models next to a manufactures simple display, does not mean they are trying to cause confusion.. I for one, am pretty appreciative of Walther's showing off a new surprise model, at...a modeling meet. I have been waiting a long time to see these done, and more importantly, do not have to mill Kato frames!

Yes. it was an old school move like the early days of RPM...Athearn used to show up at the WPM show with surprise stuff like that. No big fanfare...just something for those in attendance to see...benefits of attending? Kudos to Walthers on these.
