How easily it is forgotten or maybe sometimes for the hobby newbie, known, that Athearn is a small cog in a bigger machine. Don't forget that they're owned by Horizon Hobbies, so they have a lot bigger things to worry about. They're not JUST a model train company like some of the other manufacturers we've talked about here. The people at Horizon need to feel its worth it for them to pay someone to keep the website updated with accurate delivery dates.

Arguing about a hobby is a hobby unto itself. What a lot of drivel. Amen. I once heard a funny rumor that Atlas was going to ask the forum owner to change the name because they didn't want to be associated with this forum in any way.

Chinese New Year celebrations are starting earlier and earlier and extending much further than before. What is that - about 93 days of down time?

It's possibly because I model late 90s to present day CN but I've never missed out on a model because I didn't pre-order it. Hello-- It may be as you've said above. The modern stuff is fairly hot these days and gets made in quantities that are significant enough that one can find most items. In my case there are items I want or would be interested in that are sometimes just plain gone as soon as I see them. They could be things like Tangent Centralia Shops-built IC hoppers, for one real world example, or certain locos. For instance, my son wanted BLI 7247, HO Texas & Pacific 2-10-4 #610 in the blue/silver/grey "Eagle" paint scheme (yes, it is a fantasy scheme prototypically applied to 4-8-2's but never to a 2-10-4 in real life; and yes, the 2-10-4's did factually pull passenger trains during WWII). I showed him a photo; he said he wanted one. When I went back to the website to get it, they were gone. I have not been able to locate one anywhere despite looking. We got two of the in-service T&P freight versions instead. I would not have dreamed that a fantasy scheme loco would be sold out and unobtainium so fast, but BLI's fantasy scheme locos do, and they sell out quickly. We also missed the Reading and Northern 425 blue 4-6-2. We did get the N&W 2198 Pevlar Blue fantasy scheme Y-6B. So this year, just on fantasy scheme BLI locos, we are batting 1 of 3 on the ones we tried to find. Athearn modern diesels in fantasy paint schemes are a whole lot easier to find than BLI fantasy scheme steam.

For anyone who has them Preordered, I spoke with Pat @ Trainworx. He said the HO Scale 40ft Drop Frame trailers announced in October 2020 are delayed yet again. Now it's November. Probably be longer than that.
