Here's an interesting topic to discuss; something for our freight car spotters to figure out. This may be better suited for the Crew Lounge, but since it relates to a specific HO product, I figured I'd start here. I have a pair of Tangent 464 50 ton ASF A-3 roller bearing trucks in my stash and I need to determine a project to use them on. I model the early 2000's, so any potential model (kitbash, scratchbuild, etc), needs to fit that era. I don't know of many 50 ton cars from this time period. The only cars from the 2000's that I can find using this truck are the remaining BN 40' boxcars in BNSF company service. I also have the Southern 50' TOFC cars still on the backburner, but those trucks are better represented with the Tangent Barber S2A, so that car has been accounted for too. Does anybody have other good examples for 50 ton cars still in service in the 90's or 2000's? Maybe some MOW cars or similar unusual car types? I probably won't start this project right away, but it's simply to cultivate ideas when I'm shopping for things like decals or detail parts.

in summer of 2021 i was up on the DMIR in northern minnesota, we drove down the right of way for about 15 miles between a road crossing and allen junction, where we came across a old DMIR flat car in MOW service, still with 50T plain bearing trucks. it hadn't moved in quite some time but wasn't there the following summer when i passed through again. the iron range is a real time warp because so little of that equipment ever leaves the system.

I'd be looking for some chemical tank cars.
Maybe stock cars, but I believe they were all gone by then.
