So last night I dusted off some projects that involved a lot of photoetch.
I'm curious if anyone has any tips or recommended tools for working with it? Ideally cutters and some nice pliers or something for bending?

I will second a lot of what 12Bridge stated. I still need the etch shears and new pliers and add that you can also get the VMS Flexi Glue in black for photo etch as well.

Is The Small Shop still a viable business? Every product listed on their site is sold out, with several discontinued. I really should have a bending tool, but they seem in short supply at The Small Shop or their authorized dealers. I will note that Michigan Toy Soldier and other vendors do list alternatives so I'm sure I can find something elsewhere. The problem with looking at a site like Michigan Toy Soldier is I see lots of other things I also "need" while looking for the one thing I went there for. Jim

Jim I found some on ebay; but they're from New Zealand. But then shipping is CHEAPER than it would be to mail an HO frieght car from California? 12bridge, thanks for those. I'll order some in the coming weeks

Thankfully, there are indeed several alternatives for PE benders these days. MTS is a great bunch of guys, and not far from your neck of the woods. Their shipping is good as well.. Every time I go in there, I find some new cool thing to try.

I'll second everything stated above. More than enough resources. I would also recommend a good photo etch file like this one www.tamiyausa.com/shop/tools/diamond-file/And always remember it is ok to screw up. There is a learning curve with photo-etch and it will take practice. As a wise Jedi master once said, "Patience"

I second the Michtoy recommendation !! Great selection and great service, you can’t go wrong.
The VMS flexi thin superglue is the best I have used. It’s not too thin that it goes everywhere, but it’s easy to apply. I use some loop applicators I also got from Michtoy. I also use their superglue debonder to clean up my messes, it works like a charm. Their Metal prep 4K is also fantastic. Paint it on before you prime and you will never have a problem with adhesion on PE parts ever again.
