Amen! Thanks to ambluco for starting this thread, though I don't much like its title.
I do remember the You Asked for It program from the 1950s. (My family of origin didn't get a TV set until about 1953.) I believe it was sponsored by Skippy peanut butter and I think it was on the ABC TV network. Once I've posted this I'll try a quick Google search for the program.
Starting at 8:42 p.m: Now I've done what I said I would. According to a Wikipedia article, the original You Asked for It series was originally named after Art Baker, its creator and host; it was renamed in April 1951. It was broadcast on the DuMont Television Network from December 1950 until December 1951, when it switched to the ABC TV network, which cancelled it in 1959. Skippy peanut butter was one of its sponsors; Studebaker (by then making automobiles, not wagons) was the other.

"You Asked For It" made a comeback in the mid-seventies as I believe a syndicated show, but it only lasted for a year or two IIRC.
