Does anyone know if the second run of the RS-11's have speakers installed from the factory in the non-sound versions like the first run did?

They're a separate part screwed into the board and wired via spring contacts, but I doubt they're failing to include them suddenly when they said a while back they didn't see the point of not including them. (Something about saving money to standardize the production line) Email Rapido and ask?

I think what the OP is asking is if the non-sound units have speakers installed. The first run RS11 did even though they were DCC-Ready only.

They're expensive, but Scale Sound Systems are the best speakers you can buy for HO models. I recently put one in my Genesis Big Boy and it actually made the Tsunami 2 a lot more bearable.

The question is not about replacing it. It's whether the second run has a speaker in the DCC-Ready one.

I think the point some folks are trying to make is that the Rapido speakers in this engine are junk, so you wouldn’t want them anyway. Scale Sound systems speakers for this engine miraculously change the sound into a meaningful and accurate Alco sound. The difference is amazing. SSS also offers a dual speaker option which I have in my D&H unit.

I get the point. But sometimes on this forum, and yes elsewhere, no one answers the question. Everyone has to make their point. You don't actually know why the OP wants to know what he asked. But it's helpful for all, and people who search the forum, to know the answer and ALSO see the other points being made.

Maybe Rapido can tell you We're not on speaking terms....;-) They would still probably tell you something, but it wouldn't answer your question, and likely wouldn't be anything you could post on a forum...

Welcome to the club. I wouldn't say that I'm on speaking terms with Rapido, either. Just too many issues where their products fell short for me. John

Yes, two speakers are installed in an enclosure which sits atop the circuit board. In the exploded diagram it is the blue enclosure aft of the decoder. On my SAL RS-11 from the second run the enclosure and speakers are included.
