That's pretty nice looking!
At this rate, they'll have it out before the 1:1 version from Amtrak.

Amtrak already has most of them but have not accepted them yet in service. Useful for the modeler though if you are modeling Philadelphia's 30 Street Station as they are sitting outside in storage.

Bachmann can make good models when they try. I'm pretty excited to see this one. I don't model the present day or the Northeast Corridor, but I'm tempted by this set. I have the original Acela; it would be cool to see them side by side. The Acela was one of the first models I wanted when I started in the hobby. I was just a dumb kid at the time, so I was at the mercy of my parents credit card to order online. It took me forever to find the full set of cars.
If I get the new version, I feel like I will just have to order all the cars at once so I don't end up in the same boat again, trying to hunt for discontunued models on ebay or sketchy web stores.

At this rate, they'll have it out before the 1:1 version from Amtrak. This is the way it happened 20 years ago too! I remember in 2003 when the currently operating Acelas were all sidelined after delivery due to stress fratcures in some bracing.

Bachmann can make good models when they try. I believe this is what happens when the License Branding Officer for Amtrak is a model railroader themselves and is strict on wanting high quality accurate models whent hey have Amtrak applied to them. Amtrak doesn't want their name attached to crap models.

Of course, that was a long time ago, with management far, far away from where things are now.

I don't even recall Model Power offering an F40PH. IIRC Pemco had one, Life-Like had one, and Bachmann had one. Walthers ended up with the Life-Like but also had their own Trainline model. Plus the Kato model. All have their issues.

I don't even recall Model Power offering an F40PH. Model Power made an N scale F40PH; I had one but I don't remember for sure if there was also an HO version. There is an HO "Model Power" version on Ebay currently but there is no box, so its equally likely the seller is just guessing whether its Model Power, Life-Like or Bachmann.

As far as I know, Model Power never made an HO scale F40. Since this is the Internet, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong The HO scale Bachmann F40 is spectrum, heavy, and well detailed (for its time). I've seen some models with dual strobes that flash at the same time, and others where the strobes are out of sync. The HO scale Life Like model uses a pancake motor, and lacks some detail, but has a bit of weight in it too. I heard that until Rapido's version came out it had the best nose and coupler area. To my knowledge, it was only ever released in phase II #229, or occasionally sold as a set with a dummy F40 #381.

I have a LL one decorated Union Pacific mixed in a box of junk tinplate Lionel for whatever reason. Not sure I'd give it away free to a kid.
But so many things were sold by three, four, five different outfits it's easy to mistake one for another.
