Since my modeling is all over the map with scales / gauges, I finished an HOn30 caboose and built a boxcar. These fantastic kits are from Mount Blue Model Co. and have Micro-Trains N scale archbar trucks and couplers.
And a comparison of size against an Accurail 40' car...
I am also building an old La Belle caboose. I didn't care much for the underframe and its small steps, so I found that an Athearn cupola caboose underframe fits it perfectly lengthwise. The frame needed to be narrowed to fit in the body and the body ends needed to be worked a bit with a file, but i like it much better. Kind of updated it too.

Those Mount Blue cars look great. Quite a selection of kits on their website. Inexpensive, too. I've always had a itch to do a small HOn30 mining layout. What are you doing for motive power?

Have not been able to do much these past weeks, had hand and elbow surgery. I did finally clear these two projects this week. First is a Southbound Model Works SCL M5 rain kit done for the Winston Salem Southbound. The WSS was jointly owned by Norfolk & Western and Seaboard, now NS and CSX. 670 is still in this paint scheme and can be found sometimes in NS's North Winston yard. Next up is a Clinchfield 60 ft boxcar used in paper service. CRR had two of these 9000 and 9001. Walthers 60 ft car was the starting point. Changed the ends and roof to match the prototype.

More Ford Fast fun, it's good to get some of these cars finished up, there's another half dozen or so to go. Not all of these are for the Ford train..... Just off the my desk this morning.

Finished off the old walthers foobie flat car, a kadee brakewheel and some spare genesis trucks and a final coat of flat brings it together. Those boxcars in the background are old athearns i weathered with craft acrylics probably 17-18 years ago, either in high school or right after. Took me till age 35 to dust them off, replace the clunky trucks and bad wheelsets and spray a final coat of TS-80, they are a bit overdone and rough around the edges, but I like them.

Yeah, there is a lot to choose from. I've dealt with Ken for years, and he even modified an O scale kit for me and cut S scale doors and windows for it. Nice guy.
As far as motive power goes, I am building 2 diesels that are almost carbon copies of the ones that Hayden and Frary did for the C&DR. I'm using the November 1974 RMC as a guide. These are Minitrix FM switchers with Minitrains cabs, and some brass detail parts.
This boxcab came from eBay. It's 3d printed and has a Kato chassis.
