This week I was able to finish my Walthers H10-44. It has an Atlas GP7 hood that I removed the molded on grabs and replaced them with Tichy parts. Smokey Valley stanchions, Tichy .015 wire railing, Cannon tread plate, and misc details were added along with an NWSL wheelset (I bought them way back when they were actually affordable!). It has a Digitrax silent decoder and LED's installed. The other item that I finished this week...Back in late 1976, I began a few years of BMX racing. Since I'm into mountain biking and still like to be a little crazy sometimes, I thought it would be fun to recreate my very first BMX bike. I found the same old Schwinn Stingray Fastback frame in the correct Varsity Green color, and it just snowballed from there. It is a little small, but it makes a great cruiser bike.

That's a hot bike! Loved bikes in the 80s, gt, dyno, BMX, mag wheels. The colors!

Nice BMX bike - there wasn't a whole lot available back in 1976 for that. A couple years after that, new neighbors moved in across the street, and their middle kid had a bike setup pretty similar to yours, except without the mag wheels. It was an awesome bike, and I soon converted my bike which was a crappy Sears bike into something similar. I got a Mongoose around 1981, and started racing myself, but I think I enjoyed going to the track just to ride more than the actual racing. Sure missed out on the cool freestyle BMX craze that began shortly thereafter. I still like to watch X-games and see them riding park/street events.

Slow day today for Sunday Photos so I’ll add this one. Clinchfield is known primarily as a coal hauler, but had some covered hoppers. These were apparently assigned to either lime or cement service. This car is interesting because it appears to be a Pittsburgh & West Virginia car purchased secondhand and the Clinchfield repaint has mostly worn back off. The mix of different "Cement Loading Only" labels is also a neat detail. It would be a pretty good challenge to match it.

Not much time for modeling this week. The big news is that we celebrated my grandson's 2nd birthday. He loves trains. Thomas is his favorite, but it is a close call with Disney's Cars characters. While I was taking the picture, he figured out that Brio trains go by themselves when going down a grade. Afte the picture was taken we made a more complex layout with a couple of turnouts and a siding. Thomas stayed on the siding while Edward ran through in the opposite directions. Heck, at this rate he will probably know how to operate a model railroad before he enters kindergarten.

Gotta love the still made in USA Skyway wheels! I do have a set of Mongoose MotoMags that are waiting to be used on something. Cool story! My permanent race bike after this was a Roger DeCoster frame with Red Line forks. That was a great bike! I was thankful that my bmx career ended before the freestyle stuff was a thing. Not much into that.

BMX wasn’t a thing when I was a kid. I do wish I still had my Schwinn pea picker. I even modified it to be a 10 speed. I don’t know what even happened to it. My guess was because I got a car and wasn’t riding it my dad gave it away (he was good for doing that). Steve
