Just announced on their Live form Trainfest; it's the SD60. First run will be BN, Conrail, Soo Line, CN, NS, UP

they're going to get me for probably two CNs and maybe a SOO LINE. All depends if they do units from the first or second order. If they are in the first, I'm in the clear.

Hasn't Proto done the SD60?

Hasn't Proto done the SD60? Yes, but both that and the updated Walthers Mainline SD60, while nice models, are no where near the level of detailing of a Genesis model.

And you won’t see them for 2 years like my DT&I GP 40-2’s that I still haven’t seen and pre-ordered 2 years ago.

Should be a pretty nice model. I can definitely use a few--I just hope the artwork doesn't have the usual issues... I will wait to see the formal announcement before I pass judgement.

It makes sense in a way since they have announced SD50's already at the Genesis line.

Not sure if I'm going to buy from this new run or not. I already upgraded from the Proto2000 units to the Athearn RTR a few years ago, and spent some time detailing my Oakways, UP and SOO SD60's. I prefer ESU to Tsunami, not to mention Scale Sound Systems speakers. So no advantage there even through only one of my SD60's has sound so far.

The RTR tooling has many phase-morphed errors. The Clune tooling is very precise and lovely, but not accurate for several features.

I'm surprised Oakways were not in the first run. BN Cascade Green SD60s? The Oakways were way more common and widespread compared to the few green units BN had. I understand that Athearn wants to spread popular models across multiple runs, but if you want to make a big splash, the Oakways are probably the most iconic and memorable of the owners. They were the second largest owners behind NS.

Super easy to install SS speakers in, compared to ST.

They were then returned to EMD, and subsequently the 100 Oakway units were leased.

One of those three came back for a later visit, after a little "patching".
Now, how about the BN SD60MAC's? Those would sell nicely, and they haven't been done in plastic.

My guess is they're counting on BN modelers (using that term rather loosely here) to just see Cascade Green and buy them. They're probably not wrong. I'd imagine the Oakway units will feature heavily in the next run, they can do them a couple different ways depending on timeframe, plus CN patchouts.

I'd like to have a plain black NS engine with ditch lights.

Plus the GMTX era before they went to the CN, the NS leased them during that time period.

Nov. 26, 2024, starting about 1:51 p.m.
How do you access "Athearn's Live from Trainfest"? I don't see a link to that on the firm's website.
