I went to Hobby Lobby on Friday just to see what knick-knacks I could find, and came across this bag of craft sticks:
Now, the interesting thing is that the sticks measure 3/32" square, or just over 8 scale inches wide by almost 19 scale feet! I immediately thought, "Man, these are perfect for making ties for handlaying track!"
500 sticks come in a package, and if cut in half, will yield 1000 8'6", or 9' ties for only $3.47 plus tax! Talk about a bargain!!!

Thanks for the headsup on the ties. We have one of those stores near us and my wife really loves the deals there. I will check out some of the things I might use. Larry

Those would be great for making up some new tie loads, too!! Sadly, there isn't a Hobby lobby anywhere near me. I'll have to check out a couple of craft sotres for something similar when I'm back in Wilmington (NC).

That's a great idea. I wasn't even thinking along those lines, but you could model a tie replacement train, or lay some ties next to the ROW tosimulate an upcoming tie replacement project.
Great suggestion!
