I need to glue some SMD leds to an acrylic light tube, any suggestions??? It’s the last piece of a puzzle to replace Athearn’s cheap @@@ bulbs to leds in the style that Ulrch Models does with their expensive kit. It would be a little obvious if I asked how they did it. I’ve located all the other stuff on eBay.

Coaldrag, Crystal cement used by watchmakers to "well" glue crystals on watches should work good. It's big advantage is, that it stays crystal clear (won't yellow). It won't effect plastic materials, and is alcohol base for easy clean up. Micro-Mark sells it for gluing model airplane canopies, part #80343. It's costly, but a little goes a long way. Also, I don't know why epoxy wouldn't work or one of the cyanoacrylates, ZAP etc. I hope this helps, Charley.

I have used heat shrink insulation to attach leds to acrylic/light tubes.

Thanks for the input. I'll checkout the Crystal cement. Although I'm using heat shrink tubing on most of the setups, there's a few because of clearance problems I'm going to have to rely on paint for a light sheild. I also got a lead of using UV6800 sealent. Anybody ever hear of that??? Kevin

That Crystal coat seems a bit pricey for glueing the LED, but looks interesting to use for glueing headlight lenses. I may just have to try some. Kevin

Canopy glue will dry clear and will work for your application.

From the Ulrich website:
"Instant Glue – I use Hot Stuff, Gap Filling, Instant Glue. It has an orange label. I have tested many CA glues and I have found this one to be quick setting, great at bonding, and strong. Use a gap filling CA that sets in 10-25 seconds. The instant glue is used to reattach the ditch light housings to the platform, install LEDs into the ditch light housings, glue LEDs with attached fiber optics into the lamp holes in the shell and attach the headlight and backup light lenses."
Steve's goto adhesive.

Related question. During disassembly to install a DCC decoder, I broke the small acrylic light tube for one of the led headlights in a Jouef TGV loco. Jouef does not have replacement parts for this very limited model. If I glue the 2 tube pieces together with Crystal cement, anybody know if tube will transmit light again?
Thanks,
