Looking into getting a Sprog to catalog our clubs growing list of HO scale engines and to quickly make program changes via the computer Reading up on them, I've noticed two different versions, well actually four, but only two are what I've been reading up on: Since we are HO scale, and we have a vast majority of different decoders, we need one that will read and write to most if not all of them. What would those who use the SPROG recommend, the newest SPROG 3 or the older SPROG IIV3? Thanks for any tips or recommendations. Craig

The only reason you would want the Sprog 3 and its 2.5 amps of power is if you were running an entire layout using the Sprog. (Doesnt sound like your case) The Spring IIv3 will program anything you want via your laptop. Also, the Sprog is just "the brain" or DCC System. JMRI or whatever software you choose to use with the Sprog will depend on how many different manufacturers of decoders it can adjust. JMRI so far has done them all including ESU. We use it all the time to set speed curves and CVs for Tsunami and Digitrax decoders. Thanks Rob Gruber www.dcctrain.com
