Bachmann just released their ES44ACs and SD70ACes in NS heritage scheme. The locomotives are definitely not as detailed as Athearn or MTH, but the cheapest price I can find anywhere online is $159.99.
Do you think they will sell at that price? Especially since Intermountain GEVOs sell for around $199 and both Athearn and MTH have recently had sales in the $159.99 - $169.99 range?
There are some on ebay that are trying to sell the Bachmanns for $249! Yeah, good luck with that but what is a realistic price? I don't think it will be too long before we see sales of $119-$139 at places. Or, if someone lists the new locomotive as an auction style listing on ebay and starts it off low I still think it will be somewhere in that $119-$139 range. That may even include shipping.
Your thoughts? -James

I almost laughed when I saw the price. MTH SD70ACe's were recently being blown out at $149 with sound and they lingered and lingered.
Good luck to Bachmann but I think their detail level may have the sound units end up closer to $110.

I may seriously just spend the $160, get it and record a video of me taking it out of the package, showing it up close, then cutting it in half on my Dewalt Compound Miter saw to ONLY inspect what under the shell looks like then tossing it in the garbage! That would be a HUGE form of RESPECT for the manufacturer and their new model, As well as a HUGE WASTE OF MONEY but so what I have done it before so it wouldn't be my first time cutting a Bachmann in half! LOL

Your thoughts? -James James I would think a few would sell, but not to anyone that cares for detail. I like handrails that are not molded on to the body. Look for some great bargain deals from the usual wholesalers in a short time. They probably would be OK for train sets and maybe a large club running session where detail is not counted as an asset. A glob of plastic on wheels is exactly that anyway you slice it.Trainset Tyco,Bachmann and Life Like cars and locomotives comes to mind. Of course those are well known globs.

I guess we can't complain about the grab irons falling off in shipment. I would rather have none, than molded on, but they are what they are, and there are other better detailed options out there for most of us. Depending on how they run, I may pick up a couple, if they are cheap enough, to run on our club layout. Some of our members have been known to be able to tear up an anvil, and I would like to not worry so much about head on collisions and my engines being manhandled. Speed matching between the EMD and GE models should be easy, at least in theory.

Well even more are going to be pumping out:
-Overland Models has yet to release theirs -Intermountain is releasing a second run of their ES44ACs in NS heritage scheme -Intermountain is releasing fantasy ES44ACs painted like the NS heritage SD70ACes -Bachmann hasn't released all of theirs yet -BLI is going to release NS heritage ES44ACs
Last but not least, NS is replacing the antennas for all of the heritage units and several manufacturers have expressed interest or intent to replace them and do another run.
So we will be swimming in NS heritage units by the end of 2015 if not sooner!

Imagine the diverse range of motive power we'd have available if just half that capital, effort, and marketing went into producing something different than what everyone else is doing. These Heritage units are getting to be like F units -- everyone's got one. Keep imagining, as I doubt the race towards me-twoism will be over anytime soon.

All the more reason to hold out. Makes no sense to purchase something at premium to only find out its later selling allot less. The list of Techno toasters I'd like to have it would be no less than 10 ES44AC's(probably MTH). The SD70ACE's(all you EMD fans can hate me all you want) is the most hideous thing on the rails today(my opinion) outside of maybe a rail grinder and the only thing redeeming it are the railroads who apply heritage schemes to them. No plans to purchase any ..... more. I am happy that most trains that come through here have SD70M's and AC4000CW/CTE/ES44AC. This coming from somebody who used to refer to GE"s as "swill" but not any more. I used to hate Strawberries too and asparagus for that matter just don't like them together.

LOL But cars have made their move from square, straight lines in the 70's-early 2000's (30 years!) to the round, streamlined with HUGE headlights and Rims today. The trains have gone the opposite direction from Round & streamlined to the square, straight lines and simple look but I have come to really like the new look of the engines. I will be the first to admit that I was turned off by the look of the SD70M-2 when I first saw it in 2004/05. I remember posting a reply that I was not too sure if it would grow on me and I really did not like it. But as they started to appear everywhere on the web I started to really like the look of the square nose, windows and cab. It was a big design change from the BEAUTIFUL SD60M & SD70M cabs and even the Phase II SD70M cabs. 10 years after seeing the SD70M-2/ACE for the first time it has shot up to one of my most favorite locomotives ever, it is tied #1 only with the Phase II SD70M. The SD70ACe brought in the brand new design unlike the ES44AC which was basically the same look as the Dash 8, Dash 9, AC6000CW and the AC4400CW. We have seen those faces since like 1990!! That is 24yrs now. The new face design of the SD70ACe was only featured quickly on a failed locomotive, a PHASE II or H2 series SD90MAC in 1997/98 and never had many engines to make a presence in the world, but the SD70ACE (the replacement to the SD70M) there are thousands of them that arrived on the rails in force in 2003/04. A brand new look to most of us model railroaders/railfans. I LOVE the gorgeous SD70ACe/M-2 way more than the ES44AC!! The ES44AC ONLY looks good in UP yellow and gray otherwise it is simply a AC4400CW with a bigger radiator. BORING! LONG LIVE THE SD70ACe!! I really WONDER now what their next generation engine will look like whenever they release it in the future. I wonder if it will be something like a SD79ACe and have a total different look or will it look like the basic SD70ACe with a few changes? Hmmmm.... time will tell.

AC4400CW's ES44AC's C44-9W's on my roster 24 SD70M's 4 on the roster 4 on order. SD70ACE/SD70M-2 on my roster 4 (2 for sale and scrap probably my saws all)soon to be replaced with MTH ES44AC's SD90/43 MACs 4 sitting in the dead lines just like the real ones(butler dead lines dwindled but still quite a few there). Other 2 IND rr run through. Almost like real world proportions. LOL GE has been outselling EMD hands down. EMD makes promises it can't deliver on. Ask the CP on that one. They were supposed to order SD30C-ECO's in the hundreds so far only 20 and those were delivered about a year behind schedule. Bet that's all for double HH(not to be confused with triple HHH the wrestler). Last video I shot on those were dead in a train. Look beautiful but that don't pay the bills. In all fairness the GP20C's from what crews told me they like(and EMD is churning those out steady at Muncie). Forgot to mention the failed CN order. But EMD did pawn the DEMOS off to them to hopefully get an order down the road. I've seen a GE commercial on TV for their ES44AC's is there a EMD one? Now back to MODEL trains anyone know when the MTH"s will be delivered? Aint no way a a Bachmann will pull my 80 car grain drags or my loaded inter-modal.

I really don't look at engines as attractive or unattractive. I just look at them as giant pulling or pushing machines.
True for railroads. But as a modeler what makes you want to buy something?
