It is probably one of the same "LNG tenders" (BNGT 100 or 101) used with the BN tests (converted SD40-2DF units) about 23 years ago... crudeoilpeak.info/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/LNG_locomotive_BN78901.jpgThose cars were 20,000 gallon cryogenic tanks specially constructed by Air Products. Diesel Era magazine (V3 #6) had an article on the BN experiment and it can actually be found online at: www.energyconversions.com/dual-fuel%20solution.pdfI guess BNSF got another grant to make it look like they are investigating LNG again... As if they (BN), UP and CN haven't already been down that road. I guess it does allow them a little media coverage in a positive way to pump up investments. Back in the late 1990s I had actually asked OMI if they could do the BN SD40-2DF LNG sets with their next SD40-2 run - as they had just produced the Union Pacific C41W-LNG sets in brass - and was told that their dealer inquiries showed little or no interest, not even enough to do the necessary 25-30 sets to make even a brass model economically feasible... So for those at home keeping track of the LNG and fuel tender tests of the 1990s... BN 1991 LNG tests were short lived, but the SD40-2DF units lived on in regular (diesel) service for many years afterward... UP C41W and SD60M LNG tests lasted only a few months CSX fuel tender tests (in Florida) lasted about 3-6 months
