Hi folks,
After completing my mainline in Jan. I was able to work on my version of Dante Yard in SW Virginia. I just have a few more tracks to install around the turntable, but must get the mechano parts installed to operate it. Other than these tracks, plus the short Trammel siding, I have all the track/sidings/spurs for the mainline in! I need to wire up the upper level also, but here are some shots of the yard, starting from the North-end;
The mainline coming down Sawmill Hollow from Sandy Ridge Tunnel. The tracks here are a whopping 4%, I've exaggerated the prototype's 1.8% to make it feel like a grade, even though it's only about 6'-7' long!
Here's the yard throat, which opens up to the maximum of seven tracks across, from right-to-left, the mainline, passing siding, tracks 1-4 and the thoroughfare/scale lead.
Here's an arial view looking north towards the throat
Here's a shot looking South from the yard throat. Note that the yard twists, a necessity in the Appalachians;
From left-to-right is the Scale track, service tracks, turntable and the drill track for tracks 1-4, which ties into the siding, then the mainline.
Clsoeup of the turntable, drill track, siding and mainline. The turnout on the track next to the drill track is going to lead to the track for fuel and sand delivery.
The South end of the engine service area and the caboose track just to the right. The large pink area bottom-center is going to be the delivery track for the sand & fuel.
Here's the South yard, aka Phillips Yard, which is where all the loads are collected after being weighed on the scales! I have a track scale from Boulder Creek Engineering on order. The Cab track is to the right, accessible for the Scale crew to tack on a cab when enough loads are ready to move south!
Hope to have more shots soon,
Trevor D.
