Thanks guys. The J-1 relay valve is used on heavy cars to help with the braking. Regards, Bobby Interesting. A J-1 relay valve on a locomotive causes the locomotive to develop 45 psi in the brake cylinders with a full application of the brakes. A J-1.6 relay valve will develop 72 psi in the cylinders with a full application. J-1 relay valves are used on locomotives equipped with clasp brakes and J-1.6 relay valves are used on single shoe per wheel brake systems. I wonder if the name is the only thing these relay valves have in common or if it's the same thing used on a locomotive.

For some reason, when you said locomotive, I was thinking steam engine!? Regards, Bobby

Spikre, it's the 125T version. I have ECW trucks and IM 38"semi-scale wheels. I'm doing all I can until the Plano kit comes out, soon I hope. I'm glad you like it, thank you.

With the addition of the scratched brake stand and platform the B end is nearing completion. I made the channel for the stand, because there's no fine available. The platform is doubled by using silver bearing solder to join 2 pieces together. With the plumbing of the retaining valve, the plumbing is complete. Thanks, Bobby

Damn. That doubled up platform is a real nice touch. I know where I can use that idea. I have never had much luck soldering stainless etches though.

Thank you Mark and John, I appreciate it. John, All of my stainless tank car walks are doubled. I use the solder that Micro Mark sells. The flux is the key. I clamp the halfs together, apply the flux and run the solder. I use a 35 W iron and the solder flows like water. The I file the edges smooth and I'm done.

Thank you guys. I'd love to go to Naperville, but Savannah RPM is about as far as I go. I did a bunch of work on the 125T trucks. I like the 38" wheels, but I was told today that they used 36". My car had 38" installed at a later date. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

I'm now ready for the dreaded paint application. As you can see in the photo I have added the discharge manifold pipes and meter box. I still haven't decided on the road name, but compared to the difficulty of the build, that's no big deal. Thanks, Bobby

This is what the "model" in model railroading is all about! You took what amounts to a $2-$3 swap meet car, a toy if you will, and transformed it into a beautifully rendered (and accurate) scale model! Well done man!
