Donnell, I really appreciate you for starting this outstanding forum. And, I'm grateful for your kind comments.
Gary, I'm pleased you enjoy my efforts. If no one liked what I do, it wouldn't be much fun.
Thanks guys, Bobby

It doesn't look okay, it looks GREAT! Amazing work to bring an old POS up to modern standards. Modeling rules, RTR blows!

Bobby, fantastic car, what a tremendous transition from the original AHM car. You have made the proverbial silk purse from the sows ear. Bill

Hi Bobby,
I too was inspired by your model so much so that I bought this at a train show back in January:
Can you believe I actually paid $13 for it?!

Bill, Donnell, I'm glad you like my build, it was mostly fun. Donnell, we pay the price for what we want. I'm sure I would've done the same. You might know, the top comes off, no glue. That makes cleaning off the hatches a little easier.
Regards, Bobby

Donnell, so You paid $12.00 for a pair of those great Life Like ARA trucks. and $1.00 for the AHM Body that will give you months of Hobby Enjoyment. sounds like a good deal here. after the trucks are pulled out snip off the 2 ears, then drill a hole in the middle of the 2 molded in holes.open the hole up to fit the 20s car they will be used on.insert better wheels, and if the height is correct, Your good to go !! Bobby, have seen a few of these cars over the years,1st time in the 60s along RT9w at a Cement Plant near Kingston NY.earlier that day watched the "Golden Spike Express" depart Harmon NY,that was 1969. people were saying that those cars didn't exist then, AHM created a one off. later they would show up next to ACCA Yard on the RF&P here for awhile, then they didn't show up any more in the early 80s. have picked up a few over the years, but havnt gotten to reworking them yet. maybe a 1st rate model will come from Exact,or Kadee, its time is due. Keep The Builds Coming !! Spikre

Spikre, there were two versions of this car. One came with vertical ribs, like the one I did. The later version had two large horizontal ribs. The cars built for the NYC were 125T. There were also some 100T car with vertical ribs and one air tank.
Thanks, Bobby

Bobby,
That is a very nice piece of work. You need two to three more now. I hope to see this car in person in Savannah at the end of the month. You say it was "mostly fun". What part was not fun?

Brian Thank you Brian. Not fun, painting the car or anything for that matter! I hate the smell of paint. Savannah will soon be here. It's when I revert back to being a little boy at Christmas. See you soon. Regards, Bobby

I typically can get $10 a shot on those cars, although the last few are kind of stagnating even at 5 for $40.

Roger, it's a 80 mile trip for me, basically in my backyard. We have two guys that come from Ohio every year, both work for NS. As we say down south, y'all come!
Thanks, Bobby

How did you go from this photo to this one? I don't recall seeing your 'construction' of this piping? ...the one that always gets broken on the stock model.

I'm now ready for the dreaded paint application. As you can see in the photo I have added the discharge manifold pipes and meter box. I still haven't decided on the road name, but compared to the difficulty of the build, that's no big deal. Thanks, Bobby I missed this posting,...the addition of the discharge manifold pipes. Did you make those up?

Yes I made up all of the piping. The pipes on the stock model are very brittle and break very easy.
