OK...in searching the web I seem to see conflicting answers on how to set a Tsunami board to start sounds only when the address is selected versus with power is applied to the track.
Any experience from the forum would be appreciated. Thanks. Bob

Setting cv 210 to 1 from 0 will delay startup sounds until the address is selected and throttle is advanced to speed step 1. CV210 Ki Coefficient......could they have hid that in a more obscure place! Bob

OK...for any other forum members who might be interested in doing the same thing here's the best solution I came up with (thanks to some help from the folks at Soundtraxx).
To have the engine start only when the engine address is selected, set bit 5 of CV116 to 0. Then when you select the engine, move to speed step 1 and immediately back to speed step 0.
On the other end, to quiet the engine, CV113 is the "quiet time out" function, the value is in 1/4 seconds. Thus, CV113 = 16 will quiet the engine in 4 seconds. To make this work you need to turn off ALL function (ie. headlights, etc).

I've seen this topic on numerous forums lately (same person ?) and don't understand the confusion. Read page 45 in the manual .... www.soundtraxx.com/manuals/usersguide_diesel.pdfCV116 is the engine control. A value of 1 to 15 selects the amount of notching increase in relation to the throttle setting. By adding 32 to that value, the engine will start as soon as it sees track power. As long as your CV116 value is between 1 and 15, the sound will be off when power is applied (I have mine set to 5). Address the engine and blip the throttle and it will come to life. Mark.

Mark...yep, I posted on a couple different forums and the reason was because I was was getting what appeared to be erroneous info (CV210???). And I was not getting the results I was looking for. Your point about reading the manual is valid. It's that to some of us the almost 100 page Tsunami manual is a little intimidating. Bob

Bob, I agree with your point. Often the knowledgeable and experienced are a bit impatient with us who are less so! Sometimes I am that way with my wife because her brain doesn't work like mind does.
This reminds me of my math professors when I was taking linear algebra or calculus back in college. They would often seem confused as to why the students were a bit slow to understand the hieroglyphics on the board! Well, that is why they are the professor or student teacher!
Anyway, I'll need to book mark this topic as I expect when I finally get some Tsunami equipped diesels I'm waiting for, I'll want to apply this set of CV's!

I mentioned reading the manual on a topic on another forum and was told to turn in my "Man Card"
The dcc community could all use a little bit of help in writing their manuals. Any I have seen have been way too complex and illogical to be very helpful. At least they are more helpful than computer companies who all seem to have eliminated anything besides a cartoon sheet with new products.

Man Card aside .... Personally, I don't use Tsunami decoders, so I didn't have the answer based on experience, but rather I downloaded the manual and figured I could probably find something pertaining to it. I quickly found "Diesel Engine Control", then on the very next page was Engine Auto Start. Having never had the need to find it in the manual before, I really didn't find it all that difficult scanning the sections for what I was after. I can tell you about Loksound decoders front to back, but I've installed very few Tsunami decoders, and only have one of my own strictly as a test bed when I need to verify programming issues. I went in to this topic just as green as the OP. As a matter of fact, my Tsunami had always started at power-up, so I always left it on a track I could turn off. It wasn't until this thread, I went to the manual to find the answer. With answer in hand, I tried it on my engine (the reason it's a test bed ) and sure enough, it worked. Mark.

In my experience, the Tsunami manual is one of the better ones. I can understand how previous experience with most DCC documentation drives users to the internet first, though.
NCE can be obscure, but I usually figure it out.
Digitrax is simply baffling, but I wouldn't let the first impressions in the limited experience of a very Digitrax-adverse person be your only guide.
QSI manuals tell me why I wasn't set out to be a software engineer.
