Hi all,
We got our sample of the revised packaging for the FP9A locomotive (CN and VIA versions). With the old blister, five of the six samples they sent us arrived damaged - same problem as on the first run of Canadians. The steps got crushed. The new design has eliminated the problem.
We performed some serious drop tests on the new packaging, hopefully emulating the worst that the courier companies will throw at us. We documented them here:
Now when we get the Canadian FP9A packaging sample that will be an interesting drop test to perform...

To get the full effect of possible delivery damage, you need to use the box as a step stool to reach the top shelf of the delivery truck. J/K

Any idea when the replacement side steps will be available? Andy The tool is still being finished, and then they have to be painted and printed. It will be a month or two yet... -Jason

Just curious, how much will the new packaging affect the shipping? i.e. was only a small number of sets shipped already and quite a few will be shipped out in the new packaging so at least a lot of sets will be better protected?

Packaging is part of the solution . . . . I recently sent a Digitrax throttle back to Florida for an upgrade from DT-400 to DT-402. I got a notice that it is on it's way back via UPS. Since it left Florida two days ago, it have visited Montgomery, AL, Jackson, MS and last location is Mesquite, TX. I live in Tucson, AZ Although my package may be in a container with other packages destined for Arizona, what's the possiblity that it would be physically handled at each destination if it is sorted and resorted? The source and destination are only two steps in the shipping process and each additional stop can introduce new hazards to a carefully packaged item.

Don its been my experience that when it goes through a destination like they show on the progress report, it gets handled, whether to change trailers, containers, aircraft, trucks, ect

No doubt the new packing does a better job and thanks for posting the testing. We enjoyed seeing the testing and the results. larry
