I recently went to a train show and picked a large quantity of code 80 track and turnouts from a variety of manufacturers (some not identified), but they lack rail joiners, and the local hobby shops don't carry them and say I can't use the smaller size rail joiners - any ideas?

I agree that you will want to get the correct joiners for code 80 track. There are several online stores if your local hobby store will not order them for you.

I use Atlas code 80 on my layout, and they have corresponding joiners for them. Remember that if you're using a blocked track plan that you'll also need the plastic joiners too. I've used Toy Train Heaven as an online supplier for years, and they've been great to deal with, and I've never had a problem getting items like this from them. There are others that are good to deal with, but this just happens to be the one that I use most. You should also be able to order some from Walthers.

MB Klein (Model Train Stuff) has 295 packs of 48 metal rail joiners in stock, and 77 packs of plastic. That seems like a lot, but with Atlas moving their manufacturing who knows. I'm sure you won't have problems finding some. Regards.
