I had a request to see the Budd cars in our SPF thread this past week. Here are two shots, note they now lack the yellow tint of my earlier efforts. I am figuring this camera out... Jason's cars are outstanding. I would like to replace the trucks to make them appear a little more RI-ish. Some weathering would be nice as well. These are almost too nice of models to sully with pan pastels though. Of course these are foobies. Remember, so is every Walthers Budd car (Yes, the RI domes too).

They ain't prototypical! Boo Hiss!!!!! Aren't they supposed to be dinged, dented and dirty? P.S. That track looks a might too clean too! The photos I've seen of Joliet has a rather greasy right of way.......

Thanks for posting the photos! I like that the vestibule is lighted, makes for a realistic touch. On a few of my passenger cars I have added a small LED in the vestibule and also cut the top half of the Dutch door out then placed a Preiser conductor figure figure in there "lookin 'em over" I might have to try to bend an arm to make him look like he's picking up orders...
I have two Rapidos that I'm awaiting arrival. A PRR Fleet Of Modernism coach and the CP Park series dome obs. Looking forward to their arrival. Happy modeling, ED

One of the finest things in rail travel was hanging out the Dutch doors. Hooray for you for doing this! Ed

I'd like to offer a mini-review of the Rapido passenger car.
As someone who's spent countless hours under streamline passenger cars, NOBODY has captured that dark area with many "things" better than Rapido. Rapido is better than some brass imports. Rapido is the only plastic passenger car that has a realistic steam line. The only two things missing is the spring assembly that is welded to the draft gear and attached to the steam line to keep it from dropping down and in alignment as well as a chain with a loop also welded to the face of the draft gear to hold the steam line when not in use.
The air and signal lines on the Rapido car are unfortunately incorrect. They are also incorrect on every brass import I've ever laid eyes upon. On the prototype, there is a bracket bolted under the draft gear which holds the angle cocks for the train line air brake, signal line and electro-pneumatic brake(if so equipped). This keeps the air lines perfectly centered on the car.
Other than a few picky details, these cars are excellent. On par or better than most brass imports. A lot cheaper too!

I should point out that the lights don't flicker while the train rolls down the track.
These cars are truly outstanding models. Jason Shron is the MAN.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone! We're very happy with the way these have turned out. Our latest announcement in the line is the mid-train dome cars. www.rapidotrains.com/budd1.html-Jason
