I picked up an HO Atlas S2 and want to add sound to it, it has the 8 pin socket. I am thinking using the Loksound Select Micro decoder. I also thought I may try using an iPhone speaker. Does this sound like an accetable way to go? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

I'm sure mark would know since I've been pondering the idea of doing a sw9.
I think you are right although I have yet used an iPhone speaker let alone heard the quality in a project
I do know to be careful on iPhone speakers because they/some rather come in different ohm/loads and could be bad for your decoder..
I tried a zimo speaker in my atlas classic rs1 because my railmaster speaker kept rubbing and distorting..
I'm going to need to post another video how it sounds now but it got my attention

Well I now have sound in my S2. The newer release Atlas S2 has a speaker enclosure over the front truck, I installed the Loksound Select Micro with a 4 ohm speaker suggested by the LHS, it sounds excellent. The enclosure tool a little fabricating to accept the speaker but it was easy and straight forward. I didn't go with the iPhone speaker just out of convenience as it would have taken longer to get one.
Just running it for the first time I find the different function controls awkward after running only Tsunami's. I miss the short horn (f3). The front and rear headlights stay on and do not seem to be directional - is there a cv for this?
A fun evening project and an excellent smooth loco that sounds as good as it runs.
Martin.

Sorry Mark, but I don't know what that other forum you refer to might be...
I'm also looking at putting sound a pair of Atlas S2s.
Thanks,
David

David, Martin pretty much outlined what to use.

Canrailfan, this was a very straight forward install. I suggest the you remove the shell and remove the speaker enclosure. Take the speaker enclosure to your hobby shop and find a speaker that fits it properly. I had to slightly modify it to accept my speaker. Otherwise all easy to do, tithe hardest step is removing the shell. Good luck.
