Sorry Atlas I use Peco flexitrack but that's because I live in England but reading through the old forum for 2011 a question had been asked about code 100 rail etc.. I use flat bottom rail on the running lines and bullhead rail elsewhere. On American railways was there different poundage between flat bottom rails and was bullhead rail ever used? My era 1930s/55s so I can keep my wagons where so fitted with roofwalks.

My era 1930s/55s so I can keep my wagons where so fitted with roofwalks (sic). I don't know of any bullhead rail in the USA after 1900. Someone will find some "somewhere", but I've never seen any outside of the UK. In HO, code 100 represents very heavy rail as used on maybe one percent of US trackage, most famously on some PRR lines in the northeast. Better to use what is appropriate for what you are modeling, and that will usually be code 83, 70, or even 55. Almost all house cars had running boards 'till the late 1960s. They were phased out thru 1983- a few survived after the cut-off date: 10/1/66 Federal ban on running boards for new house cars delivered. 1/1/67 High mount hand brakes prohibited on new cars. 12/31/83 Running boards outlawed on all house cars.
