Hello, I have been lurking on these boards for awhile and I thought it was time I joined. I have a question for anyone that has a new run HO Atlas 8 40CW. I am interested in a couple of the non sound versions of these but I cannot find any information about the ditch lights. How are they set up? I am sure they are LEDS. How are they wired out of the box? The question I have is how would one go about setting them up to work on a function button. I see that Atlas is still using the 8 pin board. Would it be easier just to do a board replacement with something like a TCS A4X? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, SB

Are you sure they are still using the 8-pin plug. Haven't seen one in person yet, but they are coming with ESU decoders and they utilize the 21-pin format. (?)

Just verified with ESU .... the boards are the 21-pin variety. They come with either a Loksound decoder or a 21-pin dummy plug on the DC version.
If you want non-sound DCC, I would highly recommend the LokPilot decoder (six function) as opposed to the non-compliant TCS 21-pin decoder. While the TCS 21-pin decoder IS six functions, the last two functions will not work on a factory 21-pin board as TCS has opted to not follow the standards for 21-pin plugs.

On the c40-8w, the led's for the ditch lights are mounted in the body, with contacts on the body to touch the connectors on the frame
