Just as the thread title reads, I'm wondering if anyone knows how to install a Keep Alive (either the KA1 or KA2) with a ESU Loksound Select Direct (the board type decoder). I have a Kato SD40-2 Ho that I put one in that I love, but despite numerous cleanings, has been problematic with power interruptions. It's from an older run, but I did do the hardwire/rewire of the trucks.
Any constructive input appreciated. A Google and various forum search of several forums has yielded little.
I also saw Al Mayo's install video and web link to a site but has little on the Select Direct install. Thanks,
Brad

The Select Direct is basically a Loksound Micro decoder plugged onto a motherboard. The Keep Alive attaches to the decoder itself just like a typical Loksound Micro decoder. You will have to remove the decoder from the board (it just pops off) in order to attach the wires ( one wire attaches to the top, the other to the bottom) - see bottom diagram .... Mark.

Mark,
Thanks for the info. Is that a resistor that is soldered in line with that one wire? Can I use a bigger resistor that 100 ohms?

That resistor is only used if your are building your own Keep Alive module using a single capacitor, diode and resistor. If you are using a commercially made Keep Alive module, you don't add any additional components, just make sure you have the positive and negative wires oriented correctly.

I just recently installed a KA1 with the Select Direct and the results are outstanding! The sound stays on 2 seconds after I lift the loco off the track. I too, didn't know how to do it, then Mark showed me the diagram as above over at the RR-Line forums... Thanks again Mark!!
