I have been openly critical of Athearn's quality control issues, and it has been the deciding point in my putting their product back on the shelf all too frequently in the past. This evening I stopped by my LHS to see the new Tangent X58's ( which are exquisite btw) and they had UP 4714 on display. Looked it over, ran it, and it was damn near perfect. No glue marks, hand railings perfectly straight, and no crooked or misaligned parts. The pilot mounted ditch lights were surprising bright compared to past Genesis offerings. Motor performance was perfect, this was a non-sound btw. Is the paint off? I don't know, probably for a new unit, but close enought to be well within acceptable for myself. I've seen enough variety of armour yellow shades in a multi unit consist to not give it another thought. I give Athearn credit on this model. Very well done in my opinion.

Jack Mougin Always good to see one. And be lucky enough to have an LHS to stop by and do so.

You think UP Armour yellow varies, how about the BNSF "pumpkins".

I have seen some almost pink also several years ago. Some of the batches of paint faded within a few months on those BNSF units, but it seems to be much better lately. Larry
